Someone should write a fictional book based on his life.

Seems like a decent bloke, but he looks like he may not be off the slippery slope just yet. But reckon Derek H may have tried to keep pace on the piss drinking stakes and got a little left behind or is he always like that?

Sad to see any soul 'go off the tracks' for any reason/s. But if the man is happy with his lot, what else matters?
Hmm...Wooly - do you reckon he's really happy with where he is?

He's in a position I think of as comparative heaven, call it a pipe-dream but getting serious shit dumped on you after pouring your heart out over something, not getting enough surfs in, when the rewards of playing a responsible part in 'society' don't cough up and you get diarrhea'd on, doesn't make it seem worthwhile not to drop out.

Not even close davros.

Wayne was hailed as a Messiah for nigh on a generation by people from West Oz to San Diego. The weight of adulation he carried makes Herro's look like a 500g bag of frozen peas from Coles.

Would you say the most respected surfer Australia has produced or is that to difficult to answer or shouldn't even be approached.

I think Herro looked rather dapper in his plaid jacket.
Not the slightest bit derro. Heaps smarter attire than some crusty surfbrand hoodie or off the rack ripaquikbong coat.

As far as seeing him as sad and or depressing....that'd be a reflection on the observer equating some kind of success as a measure of happiness. Sad is any number of other incidents that befall a person. The untimely loss of a parent or child. Being stricken with cancer. Loss of life and incurable disease are truely sad occurences that people encounter everyday throgh no fault of their own.
He's alive and seemingly doing fine. What's gone is gone. There's nothing really sad about that. If his health woes wereto cut his life short, it'd be sad for his closest. But for the casual observer, we have no connection and therefore only impose our expectations on what could have been, as opposed to what is.
