no wonder that last swell caught me off guard, i thought it was supposed to be 6-8ft turned out to be 9-17 feets.

by the way the big / smallest wave contest here is measured in true face measurement.

Alas I have come to accept this stupid method of wave measurement. Like the changeover to american shoe sizes but its still completely fabricated and serves no sensible purpose other than to give the impression that youve been to hawaii and regularly surf trip[le over head waves which you call 6' to differentiate between them and the high rise size sets.

I know its a crazy idea but since you have to say how big the wave face is to explain how big you reckon it actually is why don't you just say how big the wave faces are?

Gotta agree with Iggy here.

If I'm talking to someone about surfing and they say 7ft or 9ft it automatically sets off alarm bells. Also I'm not the biggest fan of 2-4ft or 1-3ft etc, oh and 5-8ft. Usually it's more around 2-3ft or 3-4ft or 5-6ft or 6-8ft etc.

And waves should be measured at their face height because that is an accurate and factual way to do it, not this 6 foot double overhead sh.it. If you're a midget maybe so but at 176cm's a six foot wave for me is a bit over head high

Keep guessing, the only criteria I used was the picture of one foot sticking out of the wave twice under different circumstances.
Did I neglect to say how I measure it? Yep.
Since I'm six foot tall I guess I'll go and measure my face.
My criteria is simple,has some relevance to size but more likely whether the retired body can handle it, mainly about conditions and the slam dunk factor.
All the scales are fraught with miscalculation, the beach assessment is different to the I'm gunna get it on the head assessment.
