current world tour...

Post by onawave » Mon Jun 28, 2010 7:32 pm

reading a few websites recently, they rekon that the tour is still for the taking...

but with the massive break they have had, and the change in format coming really soon (after jbay?) i was trying to think who in the aussies was really standing out...

id still really like parko to re-engergize himself.... but seems like we are all still waiting for something....

thoughts?

i really liked the jbay comp last year...

that and pipe i thought were the best...

this year has been a letdown so far, basically due to bad surf (imho)

in regards to the comps being boring, i dont see how they could make it better...? unless its really pumping there is just long lulls between sets and the commentators trying to figure out what to say...

doesnt mean that i like seeing an aussie win though, or my favourite surfers do well...

Snapper was amazing, except for the last day, which sucked goats balls.
Bells sucked hairy dogs balls, except for the last day(and the small clean day at Winki) which was Rosicrucian and stellar.

Brazil, don't know didn't watch but Slater came second and Dane did a massive air.

Fong, your so full of shitt, you'll be watching every heat from J-Bay and Chopes.

And it is finally the best surfing, ever.

Fcuk, seeing Dane Reynolds surf is friggin amazing.
Whos doing better surfing than that right now?
or ever?

I still don't buy the "official" narrative about 9/11. Oh sure, it happened, fcuk yeah. But who and why and how I'm, not convinced it was what we've been told.

The ASP World Tour website does little to help the situation either. Sack the bozos in charge of that for starters...

jordy smith and danish at snapricorn were outta control. definitely the best surfing this year. too bad bells was balls.

if slater improves 5% he'll get a tenth*. he's not even surfing that good either.

don't worry you'll all be frothing over it in 2 weeks.

at least they might get some surf this time.

here is a Tip for yas.

Recently Quiksilver held one of their Family Gatherings in G-Land, organised by none other than Stephen Bell.

Belly is one of Kelly's best mates on current KS Best Mates Rankings ... yet nonetheless Kelly pulled out of attending, pretty much at the last minute.

To uncle nicky this is an indication that KS has decided to get serious about a tenth world title crack. He would have instinctively known that two weeks in and around Grajagan might not be the best prep for the coming four months or so. J-Bay ushers in an extended period of travel and competition for the lucky 45 (well, 32 after chopes), a period in which nobody will have a lot of time for themselves, to figure out boards etc etc. Now is the time to be cleaning house a bit, clearing up any injuries (they linger, specially if you're 38 and trying to surf like a 24 year old), quivering up, spending quality time with chick, family etc.

He would know better than anyone what's needed and he is not the sort to casually relinquish the World Tour lead, once it's been gained.

interesting nc...

but please enlighten me in the way i digested your post.

either kelly has taken the time off to get over a few injuries he has (thinking ankle here) or he is staying away from g-land because the waves might spoil his prep for j-bay... tho dont ask me how a quality lefthander can spoil your prep plans for surfing a quality right hander (besides surfing the right hander itself)....

yes, i know we will all prolly be frothin come j-bay time. but to re-iterate, this year's contests so far have been suky...

im really hoping for some quality waves... its the make or break for these events...

snapper was amazing, got me amped on watching the world tour again.
I try and maintain the stoke, but i'm never excited about bells, and this year was spectacularly underwhelming.
j-bay should be good, always get some good surfing done there.

it seems like the break in the year is at the wrong time, surfing should have a financial year instead of a calendar year, hawaii is always good even when the waves don't cooperate, then snapper is normally good, then it dies until mid year. and this year it's an even longer gap.

i haven't been paying attention, why was tahiti moved? because of a few bad years?
and fiji was kyboshed because of the political situation? that used to be my favourite event.

^^Tahiti was moved because it kept getting skunked and local advice was to shift it to late winter.

Fiji was kyboshed for a number of reasons, the insurance hassles involved being the big one.

aaronn, KS only surfed G-land and jeffreys bay on the same day in 2008 in your imaginary world. The point here is that he's keeping his powder dry.

shearer I am actually an uncle ya know. Though not yet a creepy one.

Slater keeping his sword sheathed has been one of the key weapons in his pyschological armoury since Jesus played full-back for Bethlehem.
How do we know we can trust Belly to put out real information?

This could be nothing but an elaborate ruse designed to spread fear and misinformation amongst Kelly's competitors.

whisper, whisper...pssss..." I heard Old Baldy hasn't even surfed since Bells....I heard he's been drinking newts blood to stay young..I heard he's had a total blood transfusion with a Himalayan holy man who has lived in a cave and is considered to be the next Buddha incarnate"

Where, Uncle Nicky, does the truth lie when considering the unsolvable enigma of Robert Kelly Slater?
