Re: that wetsuit discussion...
I'm using an Excel chest zip 3x2. Bought it almost exactly 4 years ago and will need to be replaced in the next 4 weeks, tearing at the seams in the legs and becoming stiffer/less flexible and not retaining warmth. For durability, I have rated highly and 1st 3 years were great.

Why don't you use two steamers and rotate them if money isn't a problem?

Re: that wetsuit discussion...
Ihave a RC 4/3 Flashbomb that I've just started wearing. Will be its 3rd winter, but won't see it out. Starting to tear at the right hand side of the chest zip. Last 4/3 was a RC E Bomb. Got 4 winters out of it
I'm on the lookout for a well priced back zip because of my shoulder. Would love to go a zip free, but it'd probably be a silly choice
I've always looked after my wetties when practicable, but if it sometimes has to sit wet and soggy in the car all day after an early, so be it. Proof that looking after them enhances the longevity comes from comparing my wetties with a mate who treats 'em like shit

A friend just did a whole winter in the 3/2 flashbomb (water got down to 6 or 7). Said he was fine.Legion wrote:
You guys inspired me to pull out my new f bomb from a secret drawer in the shed. No waves until Monday but. It's flatter than tay-tays chest (pre-enhancement) right now.

Good points there, Beerfan, all perfectly true and appropriate concerns. I'd also include jetting around the globe to chase waves, I think it is about as detrimental to planetary health as bottom trawling is to the health of the oceans.Beerfan wrote:MrMik wrote:Add in environmental impact and social justice issues during the production process, and disposal / recycling when it's getting old.
That's kind of funny when you burn a lot of fuel checking a few different surf spots in a car likely made in a country with low labour costs, surfing a board made of all sorts of toxic chemicals.
I use the legs of my old steamers as stubbie holders. And cut pieces of them off to put on my board racks against the bricks to stop dings.
Burn as little fuel as you can, in a car made in Japan or Germany (the most fuel efficient ones, Hybrid vs Diesel, I think), and surf the best board you can find and afford, have it made to last, from the least damaging and most resilient materials. Hand over your hard earned bucks to someone who tries to make and improve such surfboards, instead of wasting it on flimsy boards that will be landfill in a few months.

Has anyone tried the Ocean and Earth suits? Nice price on the 3/2...

It's a surprise these custom made wetsuits did not prove more popular.
Re: that wetsuit discussion...
Took my new Need steamer out for the first time this morning. Felt really flexible. Warmth factor is good. No water seemed to get in.
The leg and arm length are perfect, but the chest area is quite baggy (never had this in any other wetsuit). The backing of the chest zip is really stiff and makes the chest area stick out. The overall feeling of the suit is cheap, which seems in line with the cost, but they do make a point of saying they are the same as the big name suits. I doubt it.

BA - What do you mean by baggy? is there air where your chest should be? or do you mean the zip section makes the chest area lumpy?BA wrote:Took my new Need steamer out for the first time this morning. Felt really flexible. Warmth factor is good. No water seemed to get in.
