Re: that wetsuit discussion...
up 40 knots on a SSW today. Cuts straight through you. Last night we were doused with what they call snow rain... we'd know it more as sleet.
3 layers of clothes under a heavy sheep wool jacket, fingerless gloves, jeans 2 pairs of socks and I'm frozen through.
Thankfully it's flat. I an possibly stupid enough to stuff myself into the 3/2 and go for a paddle otherwise.

fingerless gloves don't work when it's below freezingBraithy wrote:up 40 knots on a SSW today. Cuts straight through you. Last night we were doused with what they call snow rain... we'd know it more as sleet.

I know mate. But I got that much Uni & computer work on at the moment, that in normal gloves, I can't type.daryl wrote: fingerless gloves don't work when it's below freezing
Something is better than nothing. It has to be.

Yeah the fire is cranking.
Doesn't really reach the upstairs loft though. And that's where I'm at. A little uninsulated upstairs loft.
Great view though.

Nah Daryl. It's a tin roof with a red cedar ceiling pretty much butted straight to the roof on a raked ceiling. I can't insulate it without it looking like a Sao Paulo favella.
What I have done is, insulated myself with my daughter's cat. I keep it down my zipped-up jacket while I work. It seems to be mutually beneficial.

Tasmania in winter sounds really fcuked Braithy. You're saying nothing whatsoever to make it sound anything but.

Re: that wetsuit discussion...
Yeah well, I'm a little jaded.
We're on the back end of 5 successive cold fronts one after another for the last 8-9 days. Rain, wind and cold. I'm told it's not always like this, and I'm told the rain is driving everyone here nuts because, "It's never this bad."
I'm not sure though. I've watched the weather pretty closely for hte last 20 years, and my recollection is Tassie cops cold front after cold front all winter long.
Blue sky today but ... have to see how long it lasts. 1-hour, 1-day ... heaven forbid it lasts a week?

Welcome to the south Braithy
It has been cold and raining almost every day in Victoria since the end of Autumn.
You get used to it though, and having a surf in a big storm down here are the things you live for. The insanity of it all is addictive

no connection between everyone being nuts, the cold weather and the highest incidence of banjo's per capita in the world ?Braithy wrote:Yeah well, I'm a little jaded.

Uni is not the real world.

Scored some smoking waves yesterday for an hour and a half in a 3/2 ... 10 degree air temp, blue sky and zero wind. Water felt like it was cooler than the 12 degrees they're saying it is.

Re: that wetsuit discussion...
Surfed over lunch at Gunnamatta today. Lots of sunshine so I didn't wear the hood so I'm still in the 3/2 E-Bomb, Hotskin and boots.
Warm as toast although doing about 5 duck-dives in quick succession soon starting hurting the head a bit.
Damn it was nice out there though, a little lumpy (banks are still rooted) but clean and plenty of power

According to some dive buddies: put some towels in there, dry them. Then put the wetsuit in, leave the towels in, and put it on the cool/air only cycle.fongss wrote:stupid question...but i'm not allowed put my spring suit in the dryer cause it will melt
i need it for the early.....it want melt...will it
anyone else throw there wetty in the dryer
It'll probably still fcuk it, but you'll have clean fluffy towels to cry into.
Re: that wetsuit discussion...
The dryer will fcuk it. I lay down my wettie on underfloor heated tiles and it melted the glued tapering over the seams.
