Heavy.
Best wishes to the guy for a full recovery.

Wondered how all these super heavy slabs weren't causing more of these type of injuries.

Nasty

The picture at the top of the article showing the lip smashing right on the reef looks pretty ominous, guy is lucky to be both alive and not to have have snapped his spinal cord, considering he got sucked up and thrown over the falls.

hope he has a full recovery, it's not going to be fun, or pain free.

i did something similar, but clowning around on a trampoline not onto rock with a 8 ft lip behind me  and didn't require surgery. some of the symptoms didn't even present for 3-6 months after the injury, so he may not be out of the woods yet.

without knowing anything about the actual injury, it's possibly his shoulder and neck strength from paddling that saved his life... it certainly was in my case.

things like this remind you just how feebly we are put together.

His 6 & 7 bone in the spinal column have been damaged. They're operating tonight.
It'll be a long recovery to full health.
Hang in there Kobi.
Your family and friends will be with you all the way mate.

It is well known that Kobi is a charger. He is also an excellent bloke. He runs surf camps for the groms in Bronte and keeps them on a tight leash. He has the respect and trust of all of the groms parents as well.,

Funny, makes me think how freaking unbelievably strong the human body is.

How much power in that wave :?:

Don't know him, but wish him well and a full recovery. Like others, I'm amazed that surfers don't suffer a lot more bad injuries, particularly at spots like that and similar.

Take care gentlemen, and ladies.

I bet he never anticipated that his lifeguard training would be used to save him. Seems that despite his injuries he directed the rescue efforts and got a much better result than may have happened without.

wonder if he also used his training to know to restrict his own movement,

like an MD who fell of a ladder and knew what not to move,

or should I say that he knew not to move.

Kobi goes home tomorrow. Left arm still has some problems, six months recovery.
A very lucky guy.
