Re: Sets to 50 feet on outer reefs Monday....
Dorian caught what's being called a 35 footer at Wiamea. With conditions the way they are, I'm looking forward to seeing the footage.
Thinking about utilising some sick days this week to tune into some webcasts.
The swell is definitely overhyped compared to the current reality, but I'm still keen to see what happens over the next few days.

Any cnut over there please for your Realsurf mates provide updates
Each and everyone had a cold and couldn't surf today.
Im going with shearer. Doesn't look like any good winds will come any time soon. Had to drive a bit go get away from crowds. I was expecting eddie to run today but they couldnt run it in the conditions imo.
Surfed some fun protected waves with good winds. Swell wasnt wrapping around the island to well. At least thats coming from someone who hasnt been here before and doesnt have an idea where would be working in these conditions.

Yeah Revo went to Makaha and dropped in on all the locals ha ha.steve shearer wrote:Did you surf on the west-side?
The Westside would indeed be perfect at some spots south of Makaha.....fcuk but imagine some of the clean up sets...
Good work ....let's keep this thread alive and kickin!

Nah east, was easier option from the north shore. West probably would've been better. To be honest i dont really know.steve shearer wrote:Did you surf on the west-side?

I was under the impression that the peak of the swell was yet to come.......Tuesday.....Hawaii time!!!steve shearer wrote:looked to be 20-25ft Waimea with dodgy winds.
Over-hyped?
The stormtrack relative to the great circle paths might suggest so.

Where did you surf exactly? Was it crowded? How big was it? Reef?Revolution wrote:Nah east, was easier option from the north shore. West probably would've been better. To be honest i dont really know.steve shearer wrote:Did you surf on the west-side?

Some 4ft beach around ka'awa (or something along those lines). No idea on the name of the break. Probably about 10-15 out. Bit full but some fun ones. Only got 5 waves in about 1.5 hours. I was on the bottom rung out thereCoops@DY wrote:Where did you surf exactly? Was it crowded? How big was it? Reef?Revolution wrote:Nah east, was easier option from the north shore. Tommy Carroll just got his ankle broken by a Waimea Bomb! Hey Nick weren't you about the same age when that happened to you in Hawaii a few years back?
Must have been pretty hardcore having to paddle back through the bay with a broken ankle! Big respect!

Dont own a camera atm. Flooded my Olympus point nd shoot and i didnt buy a new camera because i figured i would've bought one by now. Considered getting one over here but they are pretty much same price as Aus (in the stores).

How refreshing to read a sensible description of wave height where anyone reading the article can immediately comprehend ( as compared to that bullshit machismo Hawaain back of the wave height crap).ac2026 wrote:Surf heights are forecast heights of the face or front of waves. The surf forecast is based on the significant wave height, the average height of the one third largest waves, in the zone of maximum refraction. Some waves may be more than twice as high as the significant wave height.

They are calling it 30-40ft with 50ft sets. 30-50ft, how is that good forecasting?
Re: Sets to 50 feet on outer reefs Monday....
How big does it really look out the Bay?

What i saw this morning, 15-20ft. Although that was about 5 mins of watching as driving past, traffic was bullshit there was no where to pull over and water was washing over a few of the roads. The hot chick on TV thinks eddie will run tomorrow.
Re: Sets to 50 feet on outer reefs Monday....
Revo you should make the effort to watch it live. I saw it in 2004 and it was awesome. Just get up early find a park ( near/in the Church ) and check it out.Revolution wrote:What i saw this morning, 15-20ft. Re: Sets to 50 feet on outer reefs Monday....
I reackon there wont be much of a crowd tomorrow morning hopefully everyone goes and watches it. The plan is to go for a surf, come back home eat something nd if its on drive up. Heap of people let other people park in their front yard for $5. Car will probably be broken into by those your paying But wont leave anything in there anyways and its a rental
