Congrat's to Stephanie Gilmore on her third world title....the standard of surfing Steph/Carrissa/Sally
produce makes it alot more entertaining than a few years ago...and inspiring for my two daughters to look up too...

Congrats to Steph for sure.

Pretty solid effort to be the only person (male or female) to win the title every year they've competed.

Yep, fantastic result. Solid waves as well from what I saw of the event coverage

I feel another "lightning strikes twice" Rip Curl Campaign.

Wonder if we might see at least a one pager on the Womens results in the next months surf mags. Maybe do that in lieu of another 6 page piece on Wade Goodall - only so much of that crap I can stand...and I canst stands no more! :D

Australia gets a new world champ and it only got about 10secs on the nightly news in behind the A League reports. Pathetic.

Yeah, it will be better next year with the Dream Tour when there will actually be some television media involvement :|

Maybe things will have turned around in time for the Fantastic Noodle Snapper Rocks Pro or the Target Bells Beach Classic - hope so :!:

Good on her.

I know Layne cops it from time to time on here, couldn't help but post this quote from SMH today:

"When Steph said she wanted to win 10, it reminded me of me, to be honest. I'm proud that I retired with a record she wanted to go after.

Great result but embarrassing prize money. Guys that won't make the cut in the Aussie Open will be taking home bigger cheques than Steph

Yeah good on you Steph!
Top effort from a great girl who is a fantastic role model for other young girls who are surfing. She actually does rip as good as alot of blokes I've seen and is my daughter's hero.
As pointed out,it is a crying shame the girls aren't getting near the money they deserve or the mainsteam publicity either. Sure there aren't nearly as many girls surfing as men but their standard has definetly came ahead in leaps and bounds and the top girls are having a real good crack in some fairly serious waves. Hopefully the new tour may give them a good boost and get a few more young girls interested in our great sport so we will continue to produce more Aussie World champs into the future!
