hahahha, nah reefer. Classic sociological empirical style. zzzzzzz.
My hope is a few mobile phone manufactures come on board, based on the evidence of how important they can be to resettlement, to provide refugees with free mobile phones for a short period of time during that resettlement. These companies, UN reps, and some other researchers here in Europe invited me to present my evidence (based on my fieldwork in Western Sydney).
(oh, and before you cry "junket!" I am paying for this trip out of my own pocket and on leave ).
Now, back to the surf.
Tiny waves today. But I see that swell on its way. Camera is charged. Boards waxed. Ready and waiting.
In the meantime, I have to finish writing this paper, and try not to procrastinate on here

I've surfed portugal, spain and the canary's and honestly think the people are subnormal. Poor surfers with their own surf culture that resembles Point Break on a bad day. These people are hillbillies from regional areas who probably are the local verson of the sand-dune dwellers down at cactus. And they oftern ride boogers.
I surfed peniche first in 1990 and it was just as bad (so was the fish smell) - they simply take it too seriously and have developed their own surf culture with no pura vida/aloha feel. Our fault for importing bits of the culture and not the whole feel and for teaching the english to surf... they take bad attitude on lots of their travels (and bad front footed surfing too).

Re: Portugal looks the goods.
Well that is a shame.
I surfed Coxos consistently for a couple of weeks in '91 and never had a problem. Best waves I've had anywhere I think.
Maybe the culture has changed a bit. Or society is. Or sometimes its just random who you get in the water on a given day.
My main dramas there were bleeding feet from walking over sharp rocks to jump in.
And the first day I surfed it it was at size and I was sh!tting myself!
And it took me years to ever eat another tinned sardine after living on them almost exclusively.

Re: Portugal looks the goods.
As suspected the large swell looks set to arrive with poo onshore winds. I reckon they might try and sneak a few Rd 1 heats in today, before then residing out the storm and re-commencing possibly on Friday but more so into the weekend to capture the backside of this swell event with much more favourable winds.
