ah ok, saw him from a bit of a distance. Dont know if I would have picked it anyway.
He was making some very average waves look great.

Possibly it was NC on one of Hayden's new fishy quad prototypes? He is calling it the 'Shred Sled'. Its Basically a fishy front end with a slightly pulled in wider rounded pin (along the lines of what Slater made popular for a while). It has a slight wing behind the front fins. Single - double/ Vee with a flat rocker profile.

Got a protoype one of Hayden's today to test. Can't give you much feedback yet coz the waves were so damn bad. Im liking the round tail cencept in this type of board. It's Fiber Flex construction with a new cloth weave and foam that Hayden is working with. Should be very strong, however the blank feels a bit heavier than normal. To me this is not a bad thing coz some of those FF boards can be almost too light IMO.

The one Im testing is 5'6 x 19 1/4 x 2 3/16 or there abouts.

Neither of us are too flash in that dept rickity

in this case it was the smaller one with the weird stance

looking forward to testing the shred sled along with Pridmore's thing and a 5'8" Maurice mini-wave pro-tow super concave. Imagine them all stuck together, oh christ.

The MC.....does it have edge....?
ie an edge of some kind along the rail line?

Jimi,

I weigh 72 - 73KG

While the board has no dimensions on it, it looks about 2 3/16.

The board was shaped for Hayden himself and that is about what he rides. I would probably go 2 1/4 thick on it myself, however I personally don't like going much thicker in these types of boards than my standard shorty.

My current all rounders are 6'0 x 18 1/4 x 2 3/16 (or even 2 1/4 depending on the foil of the board).

Fcuken oath.

almost 3/4" of concave, flat exit

Rail edge front to back

RedX system

superlight p/e

basically a smaller, slightly softened version of the board KS snaffled off me at Bells and took to Kirra and I had to go to Trevor Hendy's house to get back.

That board, probably the fastest board I've ever ridden without some sort of motorised assistance, now lies in MC's chook shed behind Bells, reconditioned with a new 800-grit finish and just waiting for its next victim.

Sounds like you ride about the same as I do Natho. My current main board is a MORE, touch over 6'0, not quite 6'1. 18 1/2 x 2 1/4. Ive always felt comfortable on a 6'1 x 18 1/4 x 2 1/4. Im 70-72kgs
Never gone shorter than a 5'8 though.
Im interested in how that 5'6 goes when you get some decent waves on it.

Do you mean a sort of tucked edge rail nose to tail ?

like the rail that Merrick used to put on the Red/Black Beauty ?

If so , could you give an idea of what that does ?

Thanks. How's De Souza going BTW?

Shut up about Adriano until the connest's finished.

A bit more of a clearly defined edge than the tucked version, it's still inside the rail line but quite cut.

It feels like it keeps the pressure on all the way through turns and complements the lift of the superconcave.

No it does not catch at the front end, catching up front is usually the result of a shit rocker curve or shit surfing skills, not the rail edge.

MC is doing some magic stuff, he is on fire and full of positive energy. I have been on swats and deep concaves of his for a while and am trying to pin him down to order a new board (which is like wrestling smoke). I like the way he's trying to progress and refine ideas that have come from real-life successful R&D, rather than as a fad or just doing something different on a whim and expecting people to cope the crap that comes with the latter approach. Change and progression in boards is good, when it develops and forces changes your surfing, without forcing you to compromise the established things you do well.

is there a downside to MC's super concaves? (do they track or hard to surf vert in the pocket).

also i saw that webber is doing them in a more standard outline.
