What happened to the Quiksilver Sushi Roll? Are they a similar move?

That's just awesome. I reckon its all the better because he lands and keeps riding the wave. Too often an air is just the trick you throw at the end and there is no continuation.

I repeat, 'bit harder to do them standing up'...dont care who did em first or what year, that was never my point, just saying its much easier to do rolls of any kind when on a booger and lying down...I rode a lid along long time ago and rolls arent hard...those guys are talented for sure but to do these standing up and then to land ( standing up ) and then to continue and rip the wave some more is not easy...not goin to argue the booger versus stand up thing...its a no brainer...

Like all moves on any craft, it's not so much the move itself, but where you do them.

I think everyone has forgotten one critical point about this move (which is still blowing my mind) Jordy Smith is 6'2 and weighs 85kgs !!!!!. Sure some 16 year old who stands 5'7 and weighs 65kgs would still blow minds doing this, but hey this guy could play footy !!! Not your typical surfer rig and I would think much harder to do with those stats than some upstart who could give up surfing and ride one in the Melbourne Cup !!!

Only difference with this and bodyboarders is that the boogers do em on really hollow sections of the wave, sometimes getting barrelled again

I wanna see jordy try one of those at teahupoo!

That WAS a power move, start to finish...full on. STRAIGHT up the face, HURLED down the line, SMASHED through the lip to exit. Jordy just upped the ante. You want to take your surfing to the next level, well that's kinda where you've got to go now.

But you know what, none of us will.

Jeez it'd be great to be a kid now and looking at that move and thinking: "Maybe...maybe one day I'll go one better!"

Well not really Nick.
Thats a niche activity for a miniscule percentage of homo sapiens......like the freeestyle motorcross is for most motorbike riders.

If you take the high performance blinkers off there's plenty of places to take your surfing to the next level : you can shape your own equipment, ride alaias, paddle in to big waves, explore and discover new surf, learn to ride a quiver, become slightly more involved with your environment than seeing it as an extreme sport platform to be exploited etc etc etc

Also, to put the move into perspective. Slater's rodeo clown attempt waayy back in what 95, 99?.......shitt 10 years ago now at least....has it really taken 10 years for someone to nail one? Thats hardly breakneck speed as far as progression goes.
The fcuking west antarctic ice sheet is melting faster than that.
I still see QS surfers who can barely cutback.
Point noted that Pat Gudauskas pulled one in a heat.
Can't wait to see Jordy Bru pull one in Brazil.
I want Nightclub Dwight dead in his grave I want the nice-nice up in blazes
