probably not. i just did a search and found some interviews he did not that long ago.Clif wrote:my 2c: A clear signal to say DO IT while maintaing that well-rehearsed status of "not giving a f%ck". Or I am far too cynical

For a bloke who never worked a day in his life Dora needed an act that paid.Clif wrote:Dora was the expert at fueling the "counter-culture" narrative
The legend of Dora, the acid intelligence and the need to find a host ensured a steady stream of benefactors beguiled by their vicarious need to live outside the mainstream, or associate their brand with the counter-culture.
Dora ploughed this field with a masterful hand and a knowledge of his hosts that was genius.
Still the most interesting figure alive or dead in surfing's history.
I want Nightclub Dwight dead in his grave I want the nice-nice up in blazes

nup, for mine Bunker Spreckles ... he even had the abilty to communicate from the grave via these forums
Re: Bombora - History of Australian Surfing
the re-enactments were appalling. i even noticed nick himself rowing a boat in one. i guess that's tele for you. gripping stuff otherwise, though. can't wait to get drunk and watch the second half of the dvd after my wife and son are sleep tonight!
Re: Bombora - History of Australian Surfing
That would make more sense.Being aware of the industrial complex and then exploiting it for your own ends.Dora ploughed this field with a masterful hand and a knowledge of his hosts that was genius.
f%^& I hate being wrong. Mr green to cheer me up.
Re: Bombora - History of Australian Surfing
ps. Nick IS a clubbie. I think he was around then the old carnt. haha
Re: Bombora - History of Australian Surfing
i watched the rest of the dvd last night. gee it was short. i wish the abc had decided the history of australian surfing was worth a 13-part season instead of just a two-part three-hour thing. at least a 13-part season.
Re: Bombora - History of Australian Surfing
i also wished the editors hadn't cut the shots so quickly. the only time you got to look at anything for more than three seconds was when someone was riding a wave or when someone was telling a story, and even those occasions were rare.

Yes he is, but not Mickey Munoz.Karlos wrote:^^^Isn't he dead?
vb - just like Bunker Spreckels, Mickey Dora spoke from beyond the grave. I'm sure I remember that name used here on forums past.

Let's see if south oz even rates a mention ( those that have seen it... don't burst my bubble... ok? ).
Re: Bombora - History of Australian Surfing
On ya Nick et al. I'm looking forward to it.
NC has been the media slut this week. I saw his Good Weekend profile, saw him in the social pages, he gets a mention in pretty much any TV Guide going...first Newport Peak, then the ABC, next, the world...bwahahahahahahaha (maniacal laugh).

He was on the radio with Andrew Daddo tonight. Didn't actually hear it, just heard that it was coming up.

Not at all Kyles. If only more people did the world would be a much better place.Kyles wrote:I heard it too (although embarrassed to admit my dirty secret. Radio national in the morning, ABC sydney at night. I know, i'm sad ).
Viva la Radio Nationale!
Re: Bombora - History of Australian Surfing
Helluva job trying to cram all that into 2 x 52 min and make any kind of sense out of it. Sure NC made a decent fist of it.
As for the Good Weekend, were Nick and Tom both standing on milk crates for that photo?
