How is that incompatible with the above statement?
Just seems a bit incongruous with the timeline.

You've been on the same board for 3-4years but your surfing is improving because you are riding better boards?

Doesn't seem like a salient factor.

I'm not sure I really follow your logic.

You're quite flighty with your boards aren't you - reckon that helps or hinders?

To tell the truth eggs are one thing I avoid buying when I’m grocery shopping. So you may say I’m an intermittent egg buyer who usually lets someone else buy them.

both.

You can make big leaps forwards with equipment changes....usually the ones you didn't expect would work for you.

You can also go backwards.

But I would say changing up sleds is one of the few ways you can shake up a skill set.

I've been cycling through a two board quiver the last few weeks : a ten year old 5'10" Bonzer Octafish and a 6'0" SharpEye HT2.5.

The SharpEye is extremely high performance and the Bonzer puts the glide and flow back in. Surprisingly complementary and easy to transition between the two. Actually the Bonzer unlocked the Sharp_Eye: I stopped trying and found it much easier to run the board on it's natural line, which is really tight but carving hooks on any wave with some cup to it.

Will ride the Parmenter 7'3" a fair bit more if we get the right surf for it.

It's the same one he's riding at Keramas with the swallow tail and little tail channels.

Just under 30litres.

Sounds fun.
I pushed my new board out an 1/8 in width and 1/16 in thickness. Added 1 litre to 29.5.
Think I preferred the old one. It's still a good board though.

Your board reviews on Beachgrit seem to be characterised by large periods of struggle. Are you sure you're not just kidding yourself that occasional patches of blue in an otherwise dank and depressing experience are evidence of upward trajectory? My feeling is that you'd be better off leaving the fancy stuff to the young folk and settle for something a little more middle aged. Iggy's primed with the mini-mal advice, just waiting for you to move past the bargaining and depression stages

[bait taken]

Well if i was forced to surf in Wales full time I reckon I’d be surfing a mini mal 95% of the time instead of just during our summer wind slop. which is seemingly the equivalent of what Wales gets most of the time.

Nyeeerrr me caught a hundred waist high freezing waves in 2 hours going tick tack tick tack wack nyeeerrr progress.

You’re gonna have to. Your bait is like a flashing billboard with red arrows on it.

Seriously though, google image “gower peninsula surf” and most of what you see is waist high poo waves that have mini mal written all over them. I’m sure it gets good, but then again so does Adelaide sometimes.

If it wasn't for that 1000km offshore reef I reckon WA would be rivaling indo for the most consistent surf destination.

Oh, and the prevailing onshores.

Steve, you of course know of Geoff McCoys belief that you should ride a board for years and only then can you get the best out of it.
So, after 4 years, GSTQ has now bonded with his board and that synergy of board and rider is now starting to peak.

I had a long conversation with Geoff McCoy many years ago and he totally sold me on his philosophy. I ended up with a 5'8" Nugget. I really liked it at first, but it lacked something and so the like faded away. Bit like a bell curve without the bell.
