I tried a Robo Mollosc for slightly bigger waves. Easily the worst board I've ever ridden in the last 15 years. Slow, poor turner...not one redeeming feature. Each is to their own.

It used to spin out when you put pressure on coming off the bottom. Particularly on my backhand. Never had a board do anything like it before. I put it down to the boxy sharp rails on the fat tail. Like I'm talking....make the drop, lean into the turn and find yourself flipped arse over going headfirst at the bottom.

Hahaha. I saw a guy ripping on one at overhead Ulus. We were sitting waiting for a wave and I asked him how he liked it. He said he just got back from Gragagan and it ripped on everything - nice and fast.
The wide McCoy-like tail has always interested me, but with no big roll and V in the tail I always wondered how they would go.

there's a left point in central vietnam i've been surfing almost every winter for ten years, and recently it's been discovered by a bunch of guys living in danang. they're doing tours and turning up in groups of ten, charging dudes money to go on a bus to this place. my mate jeff who surfed it with me for the first time ten years ago blames me because i told this one guy and he went and told everyone. i think jeff is wrong, but my feelings are hurting bad. the situation is not good.

I like it though it felt like paddling a boat yesterday coming from my 6'1". It is a bit too thick for my liking at 2 3/4".
The Mollusc is actually a Mollusc Robo from BASE but it must be a custom because the Simon Anderson website has 6'5" as the shortest Mollusc Robo. I got it off Gumtree.

Bought mine after I had been riding my Fishcuit for a while. Really enjoyed the Fishcuit so I was more open to the idea that a fat board might work. Big mistake. It only went well in the little grovelling surf that I allready had plenty of boards for. Carver Fish fitted the bill far better and my Fat Bullet does too.

Talking of the Sth Coast, middle of Mollymook (near the rocks) and the north end of Narrawallee and particularly bad for this, because the flagged areas are too far away for people to walk (i mean, its at least 400m) or its near a car park.
Common sense on both sides.
Yeah I agree it needs to go both ways, though I didn't see any swimmers past about waist high water depth. Either way, I pretty much only surf the dawn patrol so not normally an issue.

Kicking out is dumb arse with swimmers in the area. Any decent surf clears most swimmers out of the board area. Not too hard to avoid swimmers in the small stuff.

The basic issue is that swimmers and learners don't actually understand that surfers ride diagonally across the wave. It makes you wonder about what they think is happening on TV when they show surf footage.
