2+1 set up takes some trial and error to get right.

I’ve found with the centre fin set half way up the box it felt too clogged up and grabby, and seemed to only want to take off in a straight down the face out into the trough line. Which was annoying if you wanted to instead take off in a free flowing high line sprint.

Whereas setting the centre fin 2/3rds towards the rear it’s spot on. It’s much more open to taking off in different lines and has more of a squirty pendulum feel rail to rail.

If it’s clean and walled up I mostly prefer the simple single fin set up. For variable or uneven conditions the 2+1 offers more acceleration rail to rail for beating down and hitting up sections.

I'm still yet to try a 2+1 in something other than a mal.

Would have loved to try today.
Scored a deep water to jacking vicco reef with big wally pocket after the initial slab.

No one out!

I reckon a forward volume widow maker would have been epic.

Surfed the old trusty 6'4 early 2000s thruster.

Just down for a few days.

Nice solid medium size west swell and clean as a whistle on the exposed coasts this morn.

Good to surf something with a bit of push.

I have a 6'6 2+1. Loose and drivey as hell. Not the easiest board to dial but when it comes together....

@Trev. Some dude from Noosa called Gary Vaughn (also a local real estate agent) is having a ding ding battle with Joel Tudor on Insta. Know him?
Don't "know" him. But I think I might have met him a few months ago.
If it's the same guy, annoying as all fcuk.
I'm not on Instagram so I guess I can't see it.

We were having a typically overpriced Noosa coffee after a surf and he turned up, having known one of the guys in our group from their school days.
He also knew a couple of real estate blokes I've known for yonks. Made sure we knew one of them was gay (which I knew anyway and the others couldn't care less) and put shit on the other guy who I've known since we were 20 and navigated me to a rally win back in 1976.

Sounds like him. A complete clown.

Right on Thud. I've used 2+1s a lot, but always in mid lengths and they were OK, but never really lit up.
Very sensitive to placement of the centre fin/the fin cluster shape.
Mark where it is now. Half an inch further back and it'll be a down the line board, half an inch forward it'll probably be unrideable.

I like small upright side fins with a bit of base, probably how your quad find are.
Thanks, that sensitivity thing is just where I am right now 'boo.

I put the new 6.5" fin in the board I rode yesterday and surfed it in similar conditions to yesterday, and it was too stiff, all the joy was gone.

I was just thinking of moving it forward, and if that didn't work, then putting yesterdays 6" back in. The other 6" I bought yesterday is smaller. So the sensitivity thing makes sense.

You're right about the quads I use, small with a wide base.

Think general rule for shorter boards is the back of the side bites line up with the front of the middle fin. Neal Purchase told me that.

Think Andrew Kidman and Dave Parmenter go by that too.

And Campbell Bros. Start there, and adjust in 1/4” increments.

I moved the fin forward about 3/8", but the sets just about doubled in height this afternoon and all I needed was down-the-line speed.

A lunch time wind change wrong footed everyone, so only a few out, no-one competing for the sets so I took whatever I wanted.

How far east Buddy? Wasn’t great where I checked this morn on way to work. Luckily I live between the serial killers dream.
