Glassy peaks galore. Low crowds. Weekend surfing is ok.

Dawnie at DY. Fun until the tide swallowed it up.

Tried the new channel bottom, it's a fun board but need to give it another run in slightly hollower conditions to see what it's capable of. Going to rip the tail pad off, carpet burn on my big toe from dragging it across the pad on take off.

Went for a swim. A bit smaller than yesterday if anything. Might go for a paddle later when the tide drops.

This swell coming has horrible bank buster written all over it.

Such a pity, the sand is groomed and plentiful down on the coal coast.

There's waves around and plenty crowded pretty much everywhere down here. West wind is really starting to hit hard.

Went out in the 35 degree heat and scored a couple of zippy little lefts that just kept holding up in the stiff offshore. Too hot to stay out long. I was actually going to wear my surf cap but couldn't find it.

Where'd ya surf on the trip?
Had 9 days on Lembongan with family for NY so surfed all the usuals there depending on tides and conditions. Then had another 6 days in Canggu where I pretty much surfed the left at Echo beach exclusively. Was going to head up to Balian to see a mate but he said that the rivermouth had burst and the water was very sketchy.

Echo Beach left? If so it was the same as the last time I surfed it a couple of years ago. Fairly easy take off if you get into them early followed by a bit of a barrel section and then it walls through towards the beach. You get a few nice double ups on the lower tide which are nice.
I was astounded at the lack of crowds though. At 3ft it usually had about 10 our which is very manageable by GC standards but as soon as it got bigger there were fuck all people out there. There didn’t seem to be too many Aussies about which I put down to fear about the volcano blowing again and you can’t get insurance at the moment for extra accommodation etc. The locals I know said that there was about 30% occupancy which looked about right, looking at the amount of people around.
As I said, i’ll definitely go back in the wet season again.
