Fantastic news, Its about time Lennox got dragged screaming into reality.

Oh and as for the whole surfing reserve no comp bullshit ... thats hilarious.

Hey Steve, you've made bank on the back of professional surfing, right ?

So in your view, its alright to hold competitions everywhere else except at your backdoor ...

You get the irony ?

Steve, are there local surfers running businesses there that will benefit thus support a comp?

That looks even more spasticatad than an Akubra ... its not even the correct size for Mr Potato Head.

No I think that's the style popular with Liberal Politicians who don't want to go full cow cockie with the Stockman.
Heaps of hipsters are wearing Akubras or rip offs these days.
There is a style called The Avalon that would fit the bill.

I think you mean hypocrisy.

Pro surfing has a major impact, there will always be tensions with recreational surfers who don't see surfing as a sport.

In my view, because I write about it, it doesn't mean I wholesale support it. I'm not a cheerleader or work PR for the WSL.

If communities decide they don't want pro surfing there, then I write about that and support that.

Especially when the WSL, a private company with zero transparency owned by an American billionaire, completely shits on local communities.

If they showed up and put their plans to the community and asked for their support and people supported it, then I might have a different view.

But they haven't.

They railoroaded this through with zero community consultation because it's an easy mark for them to rescue their failing Tour.

Possibly.
I went down the main drag yesterday and spoke to a few business owners.

Busiest summer ever, busiest winter ever.

This is not a town in need of a short term sugar hit, especially over Easter.

The town is at capacity, total real estate boom.

Its the same old tired threadbare argument getting dusted off for another round on the soapbox.

Lennox is sacred ... is an anagram of Lennox is scared.

As for the old surfing isn't a sport ... hello, it is.

Oh and ... If someone is being hypocritical, that situation may be perceived as 'ironic' by a listener who is aware of the hypocrisy, but the hypocrite is not 'being ironical' in a rhetorical sense.

Anyway ... I'm a bit busy at the moment, looking into purchasing a portal-loo franchise in the area.

Fair enough, some people have an issue with public lands being corporatised for private gain, some people don't.

Interesting though to compare here with Goldy.

Pro surfing ended on the Goldy when the Stubbies stopped in 88.

I was around Bugs in the early 90's when he was trying to conceive the Kirra Pro, which went on to become the Billabong pro and then the Quiksilver Pro.

Bugs argument was that Kirra was under threat from Marina development and Pro contest would establish a beachhead via which development could be fought.

The first 2 or 3 Kirra Pros allowed rec surfers in the lineup.

So there was at least a nominal higher purpose and effort to include rec surfers.

There's no such appeal to any greater good here.

It's just greed and fuk you to the local community.

Not even a token attempt to float the proposal and sell the benefits.

It doesn't take a whole lot of imagination to figure out why that makes people feel like that have been shat on from a great height.

Especially over the Easter weekend when things are already at capacity.

NIMBY. Speaking of which there's a huge movie crew set up in the middle of Centennial Park at the moment. Must take up about a hectare. Arguments about needing money are fcuking spurious to say the least. Public Land Fcukers. Given to the public for wearing Lycra.
