Yeah it's pretty shallow, even with some tide. I rarely surf it but have noted that I'd need to develop a good knowledge of the reef layout before I could confidently surf it.

I liked the go out up the end but man the go in would be sketchy if it was big. Found it a bit too closey outey sometimes when small. It looks way better with some size. All the back packers that ride the whitewater in would be decimated if it was larger.

Big Balangan was my favourite when I lived in Bali 20 years ago. Left a little skin off my back and legs on the reef trying to get barrelled on the end section too. Have you been watching those "Surfers of Bali" videos on YouTube, Beanpole?

Yep, always quite relaxing with the lack of doof doof or thrash music.

I like watching them too and marvelling at the cornucopia of surfing skill levels, styles and appurtenances.

They’re quite enjoyable.

Not dissimilar in effect to a meditative clip of a rainforest ringing with bird call or a babbling cobble bottomed stream.

Only with more bikini babes and top knotted Euros doing outlandish pre-surf stretch routines.

That swimming pool at Ulus does my head in.
The ability to watch little details like the progress of an SUP rider trying to get out when it's big or some guy blowing the same section on every wave makes it more like the real thing. Also some guys who aren't necessarily better surfers ability wise but just have the wave wired. Pleasure to watch.

Yes they do. More at Canguu though. Always good watching people trying to get back in at Ulus at high tide as well.

To tell the truth eggs are one thing I avoid buying when I’m grocery shopping. So you may say I’m an intermittent egg buyer who usually lets someone else buy them.

Where did stay? That would have been a great time to live and surf around the bukit. Even 10 years ago it was pretty quiet around ulus. There was only a handful of places to eat and hardly any nightlife, now development is exploding.

Banksy got his 25year leases within 200m of the cliffs just in time.

you still dig it Cranked?

Last time I surfed the Bukit I vowed never to again and that was more than 10 years ago.

Those big creamy boomers at Belangan looked enticing though.
