scored some of the best waves I've ever surfed at Crescent...
You scored some of the best waves you've ever surfed in your life and it happened to be at crescent?
Or...you scored some of the best waves you've ever had there but you've had better elsewhere?

Well it wasn't getting barrelled the length of Kirra. Yes...best waves there.
I didn't grow up surfing Bribie Island.

You've been barrelled the length of Kirra?
Big claim.
Any witnesses?
Or they fell off the perch?

Not really a big claim in the seventies and eighties.

Beany was actually a decent surfer back in the day. Semis of his local boardriders, that sort of thing

To tell the truth eggs are one thing I avoid buying when I’m grocery shopping. So you may say I’m an intermittent egg buyer who usually lets someone else buy them.

Not a big claim to say 'Kirra was barreling it's length'.
Big claim to say, 'I was getting barrelled the length of Kirra'.

Had a few of his boards actually. First time I surfed Kirra was in a club comp against Kirra.

That's about right GST. Never been much of a comp surfer really though. Got into the semis at the National Schoolies the year Jeremy Oxley one the Juniors. That's about the best I ever did. Parkos Uncle was in it as I remember. I think Rabbit Won the Opens...surprise, surprise.

You’re right Channels. I was about to post an apology but you beat me to it. He might be a sad old bastard who gives as good as he gets. But he’s our sad old bastard.

I’m sorry Beans.

Some great boards...some good for doing one thing. The one I got a barrel right through Kirra on was a semi backyard one he made. Funny he used to do the odd bang up out of shop. I had a few hang ups with that board...very down railed with a relatively large round tail but the fin was hanging way over the back. It was made for Kirra. Bought it off the guy he made it for. The thing was it could semi slide down the face and the fin would hold tight. Kirra when it was breaking properly back then if you could slot in deep enough it was like a concrete pipe but you could just hold a line on a single fin. Not pumping the board like a thruster.

Nothing better than a good pit on a single fin.

A lot of single fins back then on the Gold Coast had relatively wide base fins hanging right over the back for hollow waves.

First new board I ever bought was an MP Ski Free Model like the one he rode in MOTE. That was a great board. Rode it into the ground. More of an all round hull design.
