I remember the days before fancy surf reports. As our mums drove us to the beach, we'd do the old thumbs up/thumbs down out the window to any returning cars with surfboards on top. Their thumb direction was the long and short of it.

And don't get me started on the wetties we endured.

Legion, did you used to use the 96FM surf line?

Rule of thumb, if there was no report by 6.30am it was usually good.

Did the coastal walk over to Bondi this morning and had brunch, very pleasant it was too but whenever I do this with my wife the waves always seem to be pumping.

Fccck me Beanpole that bank in the south end - glorious 2-3ft right handers on the mid tide.. absolute glass conditions.. only about 8 blokes on it too.

At 7am there was a heavy mist over Ulus, a blood red sun surrounded by an aura of orange cloud was coming up over Kuta and a ship out to sea looked like it was floating in the mist.

Very few people around anywhere.

There were solid sets coming through, some breaking as a continuous wave from the bombie, through to a very outside corner and then out of site up the coast to Padang. I timed one continuous ridable wave at two minutes.

No one out.

One guy was out at impossibles. He was sitting way outside. A set showed its size at Padang, the lone surfer padded 100m further out before the first wave of the set broke 50m still further out, he got 10' of whitewater.

Around 15 waves in the set with one small pause which meant they broke on his head, he disappeared from view as he was swept down to Bingin.

15 guys way out at the more protected Padang. They all refused the temptation to move inside, so there might have been bigger sets or they were still a bit nervous.

Swellnet's article 'bigger than Muzza' is expecting Tuesday with a peak on Wednesday. Next week.

Yes, good banks......2-3ft?
Um, Loof it was having a hard time breaking. If you mean faces then there may occasionally have been one. Very occasionally and usually just one in a set. There ended up being something like 40 people on the left bank in front of the skate ramp. Anyone who wasn't riding a mal or foamy was an optimist. Tide swallowing it quickly.

I still don't buy the "official" narrative about 9/11. Oh sure, it happened, fcuk yeah. But who and why and how I'm, not convinced it was what we've been told.

Looking good. Watched that Gravy Guy's video about surfing in New Jersey. Got to admire his positive attitude.

Loofy overcalling waves by 200% at bondi no less, is a serious tardable offense that will earn him a TOTY19 nomination.

Now we can pay out Coastalwatch but a simple click on the live footage should end discussion. Although it's fuller now than it was.

Its high tide on a dropping swelll you retard. Just because you were too fcckn stupid to paddle south and stayed with 40 blokes on a bank that wasnt working dont drag us all down to your level of stupidity.

Now, now. I got a few. No complaints. I bailed after it got that crowded. Watched a good Barney in the water though. That was funny given the conditions.

This was just now. South swell magnet just south of Sydney.

Waist to Chest high, infrequent. Still kinda fun. Enough push and room to complete a cutback on.

It gets a hell of a lot better surf than Bondi. On big north east swells it gets insane lefts off the north corner.
