He reckons he's got one last great Indo classic left discovery in him and its the best of them all, mythical and perfect, the long left where goofys go to die.
My honest opinion about Jim is this. He’s a great surfer and shaper and I worshipped him growing up in Cronulla. Obviously he didn’t get a lot of money back then as a pro and I think the only comp he won was the OM Bali in the 80’s. I’m happy to stand corrected on that though. He needs to make a buck as we all do but I think some of his business ideas haven’t been well executed at all. I’ve heard stories from people who paid good money to him for either his Odyssey trips or bought boards from him and waited 8 months to get them and feel ripped off.
Nice bloke but is trying to get by at the expense of customer satisfaction at times.

Yep. He’s given up shaping boards (for the minute) which will increase his prices. He makes guitars now I believe.
I’m not sure that a Jim Banks acoustic will be as valuable as one of his Indo guns.

Is Tom Curren mad?
I find it hard to tell.
Fcuken oath.
i forget where i read it, but that story you wrote about tom walking around mostly incoherent and always confused. and you were totally baffled until the end, when you found his pot prescription in your hire car.

that is the real tom curren

What about Banksy Nick? He usually seems sane, but is that just the thin veneer of sanity.

He thought it was the end Sunday night at the bombie, but he survived, just.
Thin veneer. Horrible adrenaline junkie.

Saw some video of him hanging out with Mason ho in Bali at some party playing a roasting tray on his head like a musical instrument and he came across as a bit of a sad old cnut really and there is all that shit with him sticking foam to skimboards etc... jesus.... I guess when you have totally given your life to surfing you end up like that.

Living with the shame of not being a goofy footer your whole life would do damage to your mental state surely.

I think he's killing it considering the circumstances. One being if you have peaked at 25 and are kind of trapped in a virtual room that revolves around the one thing you are still good at. No education, no room to move. In his case a hereditary disposition to being moody.

I wasn't a fan early on but I appreciate him much more now.

Tom Curren is awesome. Watch him in Glass Love with his Dad Pat and you'll understand where he's coming from a bit. If you come across a surfer that isn't a tad eccentric, don't trust them.

Side note: the scene in NZ with that board being ridden and Pat Currens face briefly ghosting into the screen is awesome.

Tom is completely awesome. It does not mean he is not mad

You all seem to consider madness to be some sort of social declension or embarrassment. It is not. Not in surfing terms. It is a high honour.

Anyway bombs away for two to three days now. Sp shut the fcuk up or surf.

I agree. What sane person would willingly and repeatedly subject his mind and body to such torture. At best a sick and serious masochist
