It feels great and free - but it's also a great way to have the shore break or rocks snap or mangle your board if you lose it and it gets away from you.

Snuck out for a paddle at about 11:00. Parked up the top. Bit of a left running through. Too many people to dodge though. Just about every wave involved at least one strategic manouvre to avoid hitting or getting hit. One wave involved about five encounters including drop ins by guys going finless.

I've had some of my best surfs, no leggy.
It can be amazing the sections you make when you've committed, the extra effort you apply to make it.

1-2 foot peelers, Cronulla beachies. Weak but some fairly long rides.

Some "near beef" out in the line up. There was some bloke out there on a SUP, making a dick of himself, being a complete wave hog. Few teeth missing, looked a bit scrambled in the head.

One set come through, a right hander, and I was right in the sweet spot. He was about 15 metres down the line on the shoulder, trying to call me off saying he was "going left".

Me - "what left, it's a right, and I'm going it". Took off and rode it to the beach and paddled back out. He quickly worked out that his silly snake tactics weren't going to wash, and started engaging in some benign small talk about water temperatures and tide or some shit. I politely went along with it, just to keep the peace, thinking he was a bit of a gimp all the same.

Then another small crew of what looked to be some core nulla crew, all middle aged and pretty decent surfers. Anyway SUP man proceeded to make an even bigger dick of himself by frantically scrambling out the back for a set wave, then swung around and started gunning for it, nearly collecting about three of these blokes along the way, and telling the nearest one to get fked.

A verbal confrontation ensued. Nothing out of control, but it was on the cusp of escalating big time. You could cut the tension with a knife. Luckily these fellas had their young daughters out there with them also, as it seemed that was the only thing that stopped it kicking off.

The SUP really should've just fked off down the beach and had a peak to himself, and left everyone alone.

Sups are like jet skis. Better when they're somewhere else.

SUPpers are people, too. We need a plebiscite.

Watched one out at port, weekend, people swimming in the flags. Wobbles right into the flags, turns and goes and falls flat as soon as he catches the wave, sending his barge flying. Stunned! He copped it big time from the lifeguards.

Stupid thing is, there's at least a km of beach he could've had to himself, but was in the middle of the flags.

It attracts dunderheads. I've got a mate who doesn't surf but was immediately drawn to the idea. He would be the definitive dangerous kook if he ever managed to get on one. Entitled and a bit of a Mr Magoo on the road.

2-3 foot walled up fatties. Nothing special but still well worth a paddle. Surfed the 6'4 single.
