Oh oh, you mentioned it

Wind not quite playing, but it will be fcuken massive this weekend. Couple of other places not quite as big, but still way too much for me. Guy at work said he might see me in the water. Not where he'll likely be surfing. He plans on paddling Pelicans. Just about everyone else will be towing it

think I'm gonna go down to Bells, rustt might be all "wankers" etc but I've known the Brooks family since before Shaun was born, and they're fine with people surfing during the event as long as you give plenty of room.

even if it's not on it's still gonna be somewhat off the hook.
That's fine Nick, got no problem with a bunch of friends getting together and celebrating a mates life, but when they turn it into a commercial thing I reckon it smells a bit off. A few of the guys I know from Torquay that would normally be frothing to surf Bells wont be, I doubt that if they paddle out they would be welcome, what would be the point of invites if that were the case? :)

I may have jumped the gun a bit on who was invited so retract that bit.

I think a lot of surfers are getting a bit sick of bells and winki getting used as a contest venue so often, it does not directly affect me as I live further down the coast, but the knock on effect is we get groups of surfers travelling down here cause bells is off limits.
It's not a commercial thing, it's a fundraising event for charities connected with mental illness.

It's gonna last four hours of whatever day it's called on.

Winner gets a board as a trophy, replica of Shaun's favoured 8'8" which he used at Two Mile to such great effect.
Ok, thats not what I was calling out. Good luck with the fundraiser.

There was a big mong-out over naming that imperial measure break on swillnut.
Including one on how all the blow in spectators made it harder to park.

Here this morning. I spent 3 hours out there and haven't paddled as hard in my life. Did the run around about 15 times and only got 8 waves. The sweep was insane.
Crabmeat, I say we set up a Pozible campaign for a RS JetSki. We can fly Skipper up for swells such as this.

Saw that. Kinda ridiculous when it's named in most surf guide books. Hardly a secret these days.

And you can see it from the Great Ocean Road which, as a tourist destination, has more visitors than the GBR

I'll do my bit by keeping my Mark Warren Surfing atlas well hidden.

Swellnet! Where old men go to yell at clouds

there's nothing better than a full blown senior citizen mong out over a surf spot on the internet

seriously - the ever ageing surf populations of the US and here are really beginning to tell. Beach grit just ran a clip of a kid called Hector Santamaria from the Caribe, Hector is a super entertaining surfer, loose as a goose and pulling full flips on two foot waves. In a world where age participation matched up with the 1970s he'd be one of hundreds if not thousands of kids pulling shit like that. As it is he seems almost a curiosity.

Don't worry. A swellnet forum member was monging out hard on SN about a year ago over a post I'd put up on the realsurf forums about north straddie to help an RS member out. Keep in mind that north straddie a place that's already been whoring out and advertising the appeal of its beaches for decades to attract tourist dollars to the local community.

This Mong, was over there on SN monging out about stuff that's happening over here on RS. Can you fkn believe it?! Old men chest beating and yelling out clouds. All they're trying to do is lift their rank amongst their perceived peers. Big girly sooks that need a cuddle and mug of ovaltine

that now seems a completely new normal on the Gold Coast........pros and semi-pros just gorging themselves on skis in anything over 3ft point surf.
looks totally hellish to me.

I have no idea why 5, 10, even 1 recreational surfer doesn't shut the whole thing down.

I guess that's the difference between people who just wanna go surfing and those who wanna make money out of it.
