It's frustratingly incomplete the tagging information they are releasing to the public.
Like a white or whites were setting off the listening stations up here during Jan but there's no sign of it on the track maps.
I want to know what shark it is, I'm sure they have that info. Then we can start to ascertain what their movements are.
Half of me thinks DPI is only releasing some of the info because they don't want to inflame sensititvities and the other half thinks they are incompetent or slack. I've contacted them several times about it with zero response.
I'd imagine it's just behaving like a govt department, they just do not like releasing much information about anything. Not so much a shark agenda thing as an inbuilt Hobbesian bureaucratic resistance.
Can be broken open for sure. Let's see what can be done.
Do the tags fall off or break? Could the same shark end up being tagged 2 or 3 times?
Is there any theory why there arent attacks on the Goldie being roughly 100 clicks north of Ballina but probably 20times the number of surfers?

Just to clarify, when a receiver is pinged, the tag number of said fish is recognised by the receiver and recorded?
(But it ain't being disclosed to date)
That's the whole point of a tagging program, otherwise you can't tell if you're seeing the same shark 100 times or 100 different sharks once each.
There are acoustic tags that and receivers that don't record but they are old technology and only used when you have a tiny budget
Well exactly but Dorsal have told me twice that info is not provided.

So there's so many sharks but they're almost never going after humans then
Erase.

To them.
Put in a GIPA request to the department or get the local member to ask a question on notice.

Nets and drumlines.
The QLD shark control program has been one of the most effective on earth. It's essentially a low level inshore and continuous culling program of sharks.
A shoot first, ask questions later approach. Sharks that come close to shore have a certain probability of being caught on a drumline or in a net and killed. Overtime this reduces the risk of human/shark interaction.
Far as I can tell this hasn't occasioned any ecological collapse and sharks are still extremely common out wider.

Those super highly talented surfers suck. They take a board designed for weekend warrior dads and rip the fkukkong bag out of them and give false hope to same weekend warrior dads
I'm pretty sure that's a tuflite too

I've been reading his Insta lately, guys got talent to ride all that craft.
I'm guessing the board he is riding in that shot above is his signature model 9'1 Tolhurst high performance long board.

yep, that's the board.
he was the standout surfer on the East coast (for mine), during that Black NE'er swell last year. Threading impossible barrels in some of the biggest waves ever on the mid to north coast.
all on his 9'1" Tolhurst
I caught up with him a few weeks ago; cool fella who loves the earth.

Great! There's a 9'1 Tolhurst quad (Thunderbolt construction I think, ie. Surftech reincarnation) at my LBS for about $800.
