A horse walks into a bar, and the bartender says, "why the long face?"

... the horse dejectedly replies, "My alcoholism is destroying my family."

I really feel for you crabby.

I'll be back in Bali soon and it could possibly be quite chilly at times if that cold current (28c?) manifests and is combined with a stiff offshore.

So with that in mind I just had a long search and finally found my 1mm rubber vest.

I don't mind the cold, if there was anywhere in oz that I could surf twice a day in good surf 19 out of 20 days I'd be there

At that location, do you think if those few shark nets were still in place it would have made much of a difference?
Maybe a tiny difference, in the sense that it might disrupt a cruising pattern, but probably not much.

They've got an extra drumline out there now...........you can see it just past the back bank.
Five tagged at Forster/Tuncurry in one day apparently.
Nah, five white sharks were tagged in the first day of the new smart drumline settings up at Ballina a while back. Nobody's tagging white sharks at Forster. Though they are watching tagged sharks there. (100 sharks tagged in the Ballina area since the drumlines were first set last year, how about that?)

There's an extra 10 drumlines from Ballina to Evans now since the meshing was taken down.

Sorry Nick, the DPI tagged 6 white sharks in the Foster/Tuncurry area in the last 2 days. They also have smart drumlines there as well as the listening stations.
Including this one a few hours ago from the official DPI twitter feed.
NSWDPI advise 2.53m M White Shark caught off Bennets Head, Forster using SMART drumlines. Shark tagged & released 1km offshore.

Also, this little puppy where i was surfing solo yesterday.

Official #SharkReport: NSW - NORTHERN NSW - SOUTH BALLINA. 08:58, 07 Jun 17, 2.6m, Great White, Tag and Release

2 more tagged at Evans today.

There's an incredible amount of white shark activity happening from the mid north coast to north coast at the moment.

Been there twice in recent years and with the amount of marine life there it's no wonder there's heaps. Both times saw whales most days, heaps of dolphins and fish everywhere.

that was the one I was looking for yesterday......about 8 ft long.....cruising the back of the surf zone.

It could have been 20 feet away from me and I wouldn't have known.

Probs won't go back there for a while.

are there many GWs hanging out over at north straddie? i'd seen plenty of sharks there over the years, but think they were mostly tigers and bronze whalers.

Qld decided to keep the nets up this winter/whale season.
I think that's the first time since 2008? Braithwaite would know.

ooo shit I am not up to date

so many sharks!

It's so worth going and looking at the tracking maps for these animals, this recent crop going down to eastern Vicco and back up again. The bigger females go out from Vicco to the islands in the eastern Bass Strait then back in before heading north again. The smaller ones and males stay in near Vicco. On the way north they seem to get part way up the coast toward Syd then just head out for a while and steam straight to Port Stephens and thereabouts - you don't see that many beacons in between. Then they keep heading north eventually and get around Ballina etc and just hang. Some then keep going up past the Goldie and out.

I know they have to count properly but man, how could you deny the very high likelihood that the eastern Australian GWS population is on a significant rebound right now.

Scroll down. GWS have been tagged recently at Forster, Tuncurry, Coffs, Evans, Ballina etc. The odd tiger and bull as well.
Good thing they're so rare.
