just a late at a local point....surf was building and felt like Bells, you could do these big round bottom turns and come up into it. dirty water that stank of fish. big swirls everywhere that I took for either bull sharks or jewfish. came in and threw a big hardbody into the wash on dark.

yeah I caught a solid GT second cast, probably around 4-5kilos, but because I've got a stack of tailor fillets in the fridge and was chasing jew I released it unharmed.

Re: Where did you surf today ?
that reminds me. i saw the biggest fish i've ever seen on the goldy in a wave this morning. it was a big GT, about 3 feet, pushing a metre long.
just cruising through the back of a wave.

Re: Where did you surf today ?
Last year I was paddling through a set wave at a mid well known mid north coast point on a biggish day and a school of mullet came screaming straight at me. I was the only one out as the other crew were spread out and the only person near me had just caught a wave. Yikes.

Decided to drive down. Thought about going out at Bronte. Thought it would be leisurely. Went out at Bondi. You know when you look at the surf and there's still a few coming through but you can see the tides going to drop and screw it up. Thought it would and it did.

Dawnie at Longie. Saw an emptyish peak south of the lugga. Looked reasonable among lots of closeouts elsewhere along the beach. Got changed, headed down the path to see the boardriders tent set up at the base of the dunes with the peak already claimed.
Shoulda gone elsewhere.

Re: Where did you surf today ?
Paddled out at Bronte yesterday arvo....sat out the back for ages then got a good one right across. Thought I would paddle along to the south in the rip that runs along the inside. Ended up back out and had to paddle in against the rip to get in as the tide had come in so hardly any waves were breaking.
Bondi crap again this morning. Saw an old bald guy had managed to snap his Firwire mal. I thought they were supposed to be strong.

Speaking of big fish, last week a bloke was showing me a photo of the 1.3 metre barramundi he caught off his jetty at Buddina on the Sunshine Coast.

I believe it. This is climate change.

That's exactly what the fisherman said. He knew they were in there and targetted that species.
He let it go, of course, particularly as he is mostly catch and release, and it was a female, and anyway he thinks barra is a very over-rated eating fish.

Agreed....plus they are endemic to most of SE Asia so you never know where half the bought stuff comes from.
I've eaten a lot of ordinary reef fish over the years too.
Went for another paddle at Bronte......Beach was packed...surf very lacklustre. Even surfed the reef which I never do.

That's a horse.
They're in the Brisbane River too.
Re: Where did you surf today ?
I think 1.3 metres would be a very fair assessment. He had his adult son down in the water holding it and his son had his arms splayed a bit and there was a fair bit of fish hanging over each end.
