Re: Where did you surf today ?
Last full on blue on the beach I saw was at south Bondi about twenty years ago.....two locals going at it hammer and tongs while some mother was going " stop it, there are children here." Back when yuppies used to get abused out the back....

You know it was a bad session when you got as many waves as bluebottle stings.

pretty much anyone on a SUP at Newport is a kook, don't worry about it!BA wrote:I surf there and Mona/Warriewood a bit before work as work is closer to there than my home break so I can get out later. Although one early mid-week session at Newport I got yelled at by an old bloke on a SUP. It was 2ft and pretty straight. We were the only ones out. I pulled back on a closeout and he totally blew up saying it was the wave of the day. It wasn't. It was just a shitty closeout.steve shearer wrote:How come none of you Sydney crew go up and surf Newport?
Too localised?
I dunno, there is kind of a big divide at spots like Newport these days, when it's 3' or less then lots of different people surf there, when it's 4' or bigger it's kind of back to a Lite version of the old vibe -- competent locals who've been surfing there since they were kids plus a few visitors etc. Most of the northern beaches is a bit like that other than maybe the Queensie/Manly stretch and of course the very special case of south Palm Beach.

Vicco is pretty much flat as a tack

Cloudbreak photo this morning by Joli Wilson. Looks nice. Thought it was out of season.

i got a few ... nothing fantastic.
it's like there was 3 swells in the water. little peaks, bigger peaks and then a long walled closeout every 15 mins or so.

I heard you got defrocked (well de white coated anyway) and can no longer use the professor moniker, after a certain incident with a cadaver.

Re: Where did you surf today ?
Sketchy afternoon session. A bit windblown compared to the last few days. Got progressively crowded.

Queenscliff for the first time in years - got crowded but at least most people knew what they were doing.
Re: Where did you surf today ?
Yesterday, checked the ox, 60 blokes. Boulders, 25. Surfed some real fun waves somewhere else with 2 blokes.
This morning was offshore so went straight to local in ballina, solid shifty lefthand barrels, no one out at lighthouse or Shelley. Hard to get in the right spot but they were great when you got one. Bet the ox was packed again.

This morning was relatively clean but disorganized
surfed an outside deep water bank, alone, 4 ft sets shifty, with some push on the high tide
the wind put an early end to it
riding a 6-0 after 3 weeks of a 8-1 was quite an experience
caught a few this morning with el rancho. he was on an ancient twin, and i was on a new 5'9", 'performance' twin ...
there's so much potential out there. like there were some super fun peaks coming through, but shifty as. then there was this weird double up in front of most waves at times. super long lulls where there was nothing for 10 mins. then it'd break wider off the bank.
it was good to be out there in super clean conditions with a couple of bombs detonating on my head. but woulda loved a nice ride or three.
