Mate, you and I are old enough to remember when wave heights were measured in real life, not some airy fairy fcuken formula based on trying to make the modern day surfer look tough.
6' is 6'.
But just remember, based on Iggy's scale, he's got a 2" dick. :-o

Having said all that, Iggy did make the point once that maybe we should assess the wave height on what it is after the first 20 metres or so, after it's settled down a bit. I sort of get that.

However, if you get hit just after take off, you're still being hit by 6' of water, even if it does settle down to 3 or 4 ft a bit down the line.

That's all I have to say.

Carry on. :D:

I still don't buy the "official" narrative about 9/11. Oh sure, it happened, fcuk yeah. But who and why and how I'm, not convinced it was what we've been told.

Hate to say it BA, but you're not dealing with a regular normal human being here. He's almost 60, has been surfing for decades, and still doesn't know how to read waves. You may as well be talking to the fkn wall mate

I don't know. Though I am of the Beanie wave measuring school, you judge height on the main breaking section of a standard set, not on any unbroken peak.
And overhead is based on the surfer being erect, if you'll be excuse the very titillating ambiguity of that phrase.

Funny I still snare quite a few on the average day....without seeing the outside one hit the bank I suppose I could accept 6'...face.....just. As in just head high to slightly overhead. The one with the guy actually riding it.....5?
Probably more like 4-5 all up.
Back to the flowchart for you Hatchie.

"Funny I still snare quite a few on the average day....without seeing the outside one hit the bank"

Translation

You only catch the reforms.

It's astonishing. The two major Aussie surf forecasting websites both use the same scale, because it's the same scale that practically every surfer uses and understands. Hundreds of thousands of people "get it". Anyone (still!!) unable to understand it should call it quits, sell their quiver and take up golf instead.

So that's why it's always smaller than the report?

Of course as you well know Hatchnam....the act of surfing goes on without spurious and unnecessary wave measurement methods.

Well it said 4-5 today on Coastalwatch for the eastern suburbs and that's what Id call it. However I assume if I called it 4-5 Hatchie should call it 1-2. That isn't allowing for over calling of course. Mysterious.

One thing that seems rather unfortunate about the Iggy Scale is that since the surf doesn't get overhead that often on the East Coast...80% of the time it has to be pretty meaningless. Basically 1-2, 1-2, 1-2,2-3, 1-2, 1, -1, -1, 1-2, 1-2, 1-2,1-2,2-3, 1-2, 1, 1, etc.

"Iggy Scale" .. You're a fkn dunderhead beanpole. It's not my scale. It never was, nor will be. Just the same way I speak English, doesn't make it the "Iggy language". I've learnt the scale just the same way 95%+ of the Australian surfing fraternity has. Sell your boards, tomorrow. It's all too much for you. Take up making beeswax candles and get yourself a stall at the Bondi markets.

You know it's been referred to on here as that for years....since you took it upon yourself to articulate the size table in great detail. I rarely call it that myself.
Just looking at comments on here I think 95% is pushing it.

christ what is wrong with you guys, arguing over wave height, it sounds like an article on the Inertia

in other news, surfed all the left side runs on Hirafu/Niseko yesterday except the top bits. Today is gonna be about Niseko/Annapurni(?). I'm such a ski kook! But I love being shit at things and learning how to be better. I think it is gonna snow like hell in a couple of days so I'd better get better in a hurry.
