Loofy. The line ups on the GC are way more hostile than Sydney. People down here are mostly too scared of being sued to punch on. On the GC its tradies belting tradies. They love that shit.

 what you really need up there is boardshorts with pockets big enough for a piece of roof tile or half a brick. Mad Hueys should make em

Braithy. Do you remember the late eighties up in QLD when those stickers and tshirts came out with AMA (anti mal association) written on them?

I remember and yes, Sydney surfing is very soft compared to up here.

It was interesting , we just had the school hols with lots of Sydney folk here as per usual.

It's amazing how the etiquette nosedives with clumps of cube monkeys on CI's dropping in and snaking in the most appalling manner.

Honestly, these are the very same people who will be whinging and whining about aggressive localism impacting on their democratic rights to be cnuts in the water.
It's not that hard and usually every action meets with an equal and opposite reaction.

Don't leave your ciggy butts and other rubbish around and don't be a cnut in the water.
I want Nightclub Dwight dead in his grave I want the nice-nice up in blazes

Haha. I do. They were ferocious about it at Burleigh circa 1988-89.

Totally. Back in the days of Bad Billys boardies, hot tuna muscle shirts, and Oakleys.

And because of that total divide back between shortboarders and longboarders, there was no easy leg up for any newcomers to surfing. From day dot you were either paddling out on a 6'2 potato chip and making do, or chose to surf a log. No in between. Don't even remember ever seeing anything remotely like a "fun board" or hybrid, or mini Malibu, etc.

I learnt to surf on a 6'5" pipedream banana blade. It must have extended my learning curve by about four years.

Yes, I remember when the banana boards turned up circa Shane Herring and Slater. I'd been riding a 6'4" Wayne Deane swallowtail with belly channels for a reasonable while. Great board. Thought it was about time to get a new board though and I went into a shop out on the Industrial Estate at Byron. Mad dog I think. The boards the same length were now about a quarter the thickness and about 17" wide with heaps of rocker. The guy in the shop basically told me I should get a mal as there was no way I would find a short board. Kept the Wayne Deane for a while longer.

What was the size like? I had a pre dawn check, south facing beach and as well as blowing a gale it just didn't look like it was much more than shoulder high. I thought it would've been a bit bigger considering I heard reports of snapped boards at windang island yesterday. I saw a snapped board in a bin near barrack point this morning.

Banks at the farm looked very average the other day

Mystics was chest high and smaller and too crossed up. The northern corner actually had waves running at right angles to one another.

Farm was up to headhigh but sluggish with a lot of shutdowns. Got a few peelers.

East corrimal was chest high and had some ok lefts.
