disappointing, indeed. but are you surprised?

yes, it an east swell, with favourable NNW winds, which maroubra loves, as you know...

but much to the point, it's a 13 second period swell. for the most part, you can forget all about maroubra at anything over about a 10 second swell. same applies for nearly all beach breaks. 13 second swell periods on beach breaks = very long waits with very long/straight waves. maroubra would have single waves spanning 300-500 hundred metres wide at 13 seconds. no peak, just a ruler-edge straighty.

go
find
a fkn
reef break
or
point
if
it's
13 seconds

man.
He would need a bonzer or a cv2 or another board suited to reefs or down the line waves...oh wait.

I didn't say the swell was too big. It's only two foot. I said the period was too long. And the swell hitting the beach is too long and straight to expect anything remotely decent out there. Drop your tantrums you cry baby and learn from it. Or instead don't.

The advice on long period swells generally working much better on reefs and points than they do beach breaks is common knowledge. Somehow you missed it.

Yes, you may still get a wave here and there on a beach break like maroubra in a 13 second period swell. But there's other places you'd be much better off hitting. Places that would be well within reach of somebody that casually rocks up to work at 11.15am most days. And certainly someone that has a quiver of boards mostly suited to a reef or a point.

Thanks for the advice silly cnut but I had a two hour window on the mid tide.

Your advice is such common knowledge that it comes across a patronising so keep it.

The swell wasnt at all straight, it just hadnt come up.

Some good long rides in there, the sets were just slow as anything and not many waves to a set.

Next time I'll be sure to take the week off and fine somewhere suitable.

The saving grace today for you was that the swell was only two foot. The swell was straight but the lack of size veiled it. Had it been much bigger then on 13 secs it'd be ruler edged straighties.

If the swell spikes another foor or two bigger, then line yourself up some excuses for a four hour window and do yourself (and those point/reef boards) some long overdue justice.

Hate me now, but you'll be glad you hopped to it.

Don't you get sandbanks over there?

[quote="Hatchnam"]Six foot? Are you talking headhigh? Or double overhead? Cape Otway is meant to be DOH. But you're east of Wilsons Prom aren't you ? How's 14 seconds of SW groundswell making thru it out your way with 6 foot waves? You're talking headhigh aren't you.[/quote

Double overhead hachie 3-) it was solid double overhead yesterday, with very little wind over the last 3 days and a very solid little groundswell sneaking under the radar, a couple of places have been close to all time, luvin life at the moment. :-D-:

I heard one guest say this morning on the ABC, prior to Dons report, that the surf was 2-3 foot. Then the announcer said unchallenged and in all seriousness that it is head high. WTF? Are they midgets, kneelos, or just translating Hawaiian measurements to practical examples?

Nice little "secret" spot out of the northerly.
With about 40 others after a half hour.

I still don't buy the "official" narrative about 9/11. Oh sure, it happened, fcuk yeah. But who and why and how I'm, not convinced it was what we've been told.

Coal coast reef at a little overhead on the sets. Plenty of teeth for its size. Wind is all over it now.

Dead glassy at 5.45am. Overhead bombs, decent banks, long rides. Crowd was OK but starting to pile in to the carpark just as i was finishing up about 7am.

Wouldn't have mattered where I surfed today, it was good everywhere. I went to a less popular spot than the choice of the masses and had some good rides. Just grateful to have done it all before 10am.........didn't that onshore wind destroy it all.
