Re: Where did you surf today ?
Steve do you use garfish for Tailor bait and how do you like to prep you Tailor to eat, sushi style?
Side note: my kids insist on me wearing shoes to pick them up. Tough I think.

Garfish are insane but I use lures, no bait. Rod is always in the car rigged and ready to go.
I used a sailfin 60gr jig for these ones but they would have hit anything.

Yday Cronulla Point on first light . Not really that big. Maybe four foot plus.
Jimmy and 2nd reef are right. Its needs some proper size to work, and that its all about that first section.
yesterday it wasn't barreling. It was just a twenty metre mush over section, then a gradual reform into a kinda boring but Ok wall you could put in a couple of cutbacks on.
Today, mid-North maroubra. Five foot or more on the bomb sets, but nothing great. Washy table scraps of a swell that was mostly marching straight past.
The south swell and south wind combo sucks for the most of it.

Re: Where did you surf today ?
Good surf yesterday on the Bukit. Went out at 11:30 came in at 4. 6'+ sets of 5-10 waves every 15-20 mins. Initially about 40 surfers spread over 4 take-off zones on a 500m stretch, and the wind light, shifting from east to sse then going se about 1pm and staying there, just strong enough to ruffle the surface like a diving pool.
The pack fell away all day and a really pleasant and relaxing rhythm developed. About 8 people on the primo peak, twos and threes on the others, plenty of time to talk, relax and share out the waves.
PS: its not always like this.

Jeebus. The last time I went out for more than 2 hours in the midday sun in Indo I ended up with burnt lips and red eyes.Cranked wrote:Good surf yesterday on the Bukit. Went out at 11:30 came in at 4.

Its not very hot at all atm, I'm wearing rubber. Its the time of year, plus I think that ash may be filtering the rays a bit. Mar-May and Oct-Dec are the killer hot months in the water, even a rashy is too hot.
It was a low tide surf yesterday, wore my new booties for the second time: they were crap, went in and buried them in the sand.

Nah, it was just to hide them while I went back out. I never expected them to work very well for me, even tho they seemed ok the first timemarauding mullet wrote:I'm picturing a throw-downCranked wrote: wore my new booties for the second time: they were crap, went in and buried them in the sand.

every decent 'alternative' shaper and hip rider from byron to noosa was on the scene this morning.

Re: Where did you surf today ?
Just had a few fun ones at the Point.......chopper buzzed twice.
Had a little tokelau on a joint with a mate from the sunny coast who made big bank from the realo boom and now cruises the coast in a white range rover with a full quiver.
Spoke to some euro chick on the point and she reckoned they saw a shark at the boat channel but that sounded like BS to me.
rode the yellow bonzer, divine little speed runners were on offer.

Re: Where did you surf today ?
had another arvo sesh in still decent but wind affected point waves. I'm chatting to a mate in the corner when this police 4WD pulls up on the sand and tells me there was a large tiger shark spotted at the northern end this morning. They also said they've been listening to the radios from Ballina and he reckoned it was going berserk down there with shark sightings.
The current theory is they're now moving north.
