Newy. Damn. That place seems built for South winter swells. Only about five foot at biggest spots down this way.

Wax up your guns and chuck a sickie! It's been straight offshore all night and the buoys are showing lots of energy. :!:

In Newie the wind turned SW just after dawn and the swell was a bit raw. Scored Tuncurry Wall at a fun 3ft for the early, then big long walls at Salty all afternoon. My arms are about to fall off!

Scored a 2nd hand 6'2 waterskate off Grant Miller in almost new condition. Got a session in at Cronulla point yesterday and a managed to compress the rail and put a golf ball size hole in the bottom in one fowl swoop. Two weeks till It's fixed.....spewin'

Anyone remember (or should I say is old enough) to remember the 'Waterskate' boards from back in the 70's. They were made/sold by Gordon & Smith for about $70 and what we then 'grommets' called a 'pop out' being basically the same plan shape and size although they obviously pre dated any computer and were still hand crafted. Such was the derision of any off the shelf boards of the time when the shaper was king. Funny how times change eh?

yeah "Fat Albert" I think they were called. Fcuken awful looking thing with opaque streaky looking vomit coloured paint job.
Don Burford (Adealide) had a very nice little rounded square tail single fin pop-out in the 70's called a Warrior.
I had one when I was in high school, my first brand new board after a series of 2nd hand shitheaps. Couldn't have been prouder, but some of the other fcukwits at school were taking the piss because it was a popout. :(

Had a late urge. Ran down the steps after suiting up using the shopping bag thing at the girlfriends place across the road.
Ahead of me was a guy in a yellow steamer.
Oh, man, you gotta be kidding .
Reassuringly he dominated the pack amongst the sketchy, rippy, incoming tide shenanigans that the south end is notorious for. I thought I spotted jimmy left armed crooked hook a power turn into a section, I called out, the doppelgänger sneared as only a foreign bleach haired wannabe could. I sighed and longed for the days of doe eyed junkies and kiwi hard men occupying the lineup.
The light grew dim, and the remaining black suits dissipated until it seemed to be me and mr yellowman. On the paddle back out after a sweet pre set runner to the shorey which I thought had to be the last, I caught sight of the yellow suit illuminated by the icebergs lights.
So, if the a Noah's out here it's gonna go for the seal over the chicken wing.
Managed another inbetweener to the shorey and gambolled up the sand looking back at the yellowman jag the last of the days set wave to shore.
We chatted on the way up the steps.
He was a blow in here for work this week coordinating film festival activities for next month. Offered me a few freebies after exchange of details, including ( fleeting) involvement in Realsurf. !!!

Found it thanks Cedric!! That's the one, classic shouldery early 70's plan shape. That decal gave me a flashback.
Looks like he sold it but ad is still there. http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/1971-72-DON- ... 7675.l2557

Wallace....as in Bill Wallace, long time shaper from Brookie on the Nth Beaches had a "pop out" too.
At Bennetts...the Bull, Greg Knoll had a pop out model also... think it was $70 that the younger bro bought. But it surfed ok...all one opaque colour as opposed to the Wallaces' that had the Shane vomit splurge too

Yeah-I think that's right. As were the Wallaces' and they were a whole lot cheaper than a custom.
Seems these mass produced boards that come in from Asia nowadays are merely a more refined pop out
