Cant pop up, but can paddle. Need advice, what can i surf?

Post by Beerfan » Mon Jan 05, 2009 7:11 pm

So, had a "minor" elbow op to remove a bone chip ( gee im glad i played league as a kid haha ) last month. Doc said 10 days 100%. Nearly a month later, im getting better, probably 97%, but i cant fully straighten my elbow, and while paddling is ok, popping up is downright painful at the moment. I've surfed twice in the last week, and after the first "pop up", i;ve had to ride waves on my guts. I want to keep getting out in the waves ( up to shoulder high for now ), and while surfing prone on my twin keel is fun, im thinking of other surfcraft while my elbow gets back to 100%.

So, what do you guys think??.

Bodyboard?

Keep surfing prone on my twin keel?

Paddleboard ( the clubby style not standup )?

My redback surfmat??

Bodyboard seems logical, as painful as it may be to you if you are someone who thinks of them as "lidders", "gut-sliders" or whatever...

Kneeboard still means i have to pop up to my knees, doesnt it?? Even when i get back out the back, and go from laying down to sitting on my board its painful.

I have nothing against bb'ers. Looking like an option at the moment.

How about one of those inflatable surf mats … heaps more buoyancy … and fast.
Lets face it you’re not going to do much on a booger … just cruise … and when your arm gets better you can use the surf mat in hollow shories … either way you will require flippers … or maybe just get the flippers and body surf.

Just pretend like your a paraplegic and slide of your guts on your twin keel.

I'd rather be a cripple than suffer the embarrassment of riding a booger.

please don't ask me to endorse this type of behaviour ... that must be your own internal battle ... take a good hard look at yourself and decide if it's more important to boogie now or to be able to live with the shame later ... I hope you make the right decision ...

Im not against BB's at all. Each to their own. Im saving up for a new board, so i dont want to spend any cash, so i think i'll keep surfing the twin prone. I look like a goose, but its actually fun, and pretty fast. I always end up digging the nose and wiping out though, have to practise some more.

Take care of that elbow, mine won't straighten now after a bad break and shonky setting. It might affect paddling.
