I have a mate in Sydney who reckons you can hear the rocks moving underneath at Cronulla Point. Thought he was bullshitting.mustkillmulloway wrote:

Gotta agree with the sound of the surf overnight. I'm amazed to realise I can hear it from my place when a new swell arrives. Magic sound.

One of the best sounds I ever heard was a double air matress exploding in the 5' shorebreak at Boomer in the summer of '85 - 86.
I also like the sound of the backwash rolling the pebbles on the beach around in a good swell, there's a sort of roar it makes when it ricochets off the cliffs.
I also used to love the "whump" sound the sets at Salmon Hole would make in the still night air when you used to be able to camp on the clifftop.

the sound at g land at night when you drop in an this roar comes up behind you
your using your imagination working out what the wave is doing.
using instinct
you arent quite sure , just guessing...
you dont know if its going to closeout untill its too late.
your feeling the face for clues and listening to this helicopter sound, but its not a helicopter... its the lip cracking into the coral.
but that roar as it envelopes you is something i will never forget.
i want more

cronulla point as far as i have dived is mostly a series of flat underwater slabs. havent seen any loose boulders under there.
big flat rocks as far as the underwater eye can see with the occasional gouge from (i guess) boat props
but hey, theres allways a remote chance he isnt telling fibs.
people have said the same of waimea (north shore etc), and that i can't comment on.
