Speeedfins... R.I.P?

Post by dUg » Sat Aug 23, 2008 11:26 am

Hmmm... couple of months back I talked to a mate with a Speeedfins account... said he'd been calling them for two weeks... no one answered the phone. Couple of weeks ago bumped into the local Speeedfins rep in Bummings and asked if he knew what was going on. He says "yeah... funny you should say that... I've been trying to ring them as well".

Anyone had a look at http://www.speeedfins.com lately? Errrr.... interesting...

Heard a similar rumor, dUgout. What’s happened with that site?

Then again, this is their actual site... http://www.speeedsurf.com.au/home/

I looked into getting some super super cheap fins thru them about 2 months ago, didnt end up getting them coz I wasnt able to see a set or test them before placing an order, have sent an e-mail a few weeks ago to discuss it further , but no response ??? I did wonder why they were so cheap, I think the rep would have to know whats going on....

funny you mention it cause my shaper (reddog) hasn't been able to contact them for ages and his pics are plastered all over the website - they weren't paying something properly either apparently...

ric: this is the site as it appeared 12 months ago:

http://web.archive.org/web/200708130005 ... dfins.com/

I think it was just before that they set up Speeedsurf and started pumping all the other gear like DartBoards and X-Fins.

pridmore: so you've got a board with Speeedfins in as well? Hmmm... I only have one... but I don't have a spare set for it. I wonder if there is somewhere I can buy up big on Speeedfins now??? :P There must be shiploads of boards worldwide with them in. I know for a fact they sold well in the UK and Brazil!

....eeep... that's not a good sign. :(

So is there anyone out there who knows first hand what's going on? Has this once great screwless fin system gone the way of the Dodo? I really hope not...

Were they the stupid printed jobs? If so, what were they thinking. :?

With ya dUg, good system, good logic. Multi-plug has been pretty good too.

LOL that was the start... but they later expanded the range to several FCS tab models without cartoon sluts on them. ;)

I do think it's a bloody shame if speeedies have bought the farm... but as you suggest ric... had they stayed with the core idea they might have faired better. I mean why get drawn into FCS's game? IMHO there were enough benefits to sell that product on.

Tiger cheers for that... if I find the speeedies gravy train has run out of steam for certain, I'll be in touch!

Marty Peknice is a good man-I hope things haven't turned sour for him. FCS being the bastard child of Macquarie Bank and their ways-be good to see a smaller core outfit survive and prosper-particularly since the Speed Fin product is superior IMO.

Marty is long gone from Speeedfins as I think so is Jodie

I have about 15 sets of speeedfins mostly fibreglass, some ceramic etc

If anyone (on the northern beaches) wants them they can have the lot for $150

PM me if you want them

Nah Matt

I did some consulting work for them a few years ago and I know Jodes and Marty.

I really don't know what is going on but it wouldn't surprise me to hear they are going belly up. For a while now the business has been built around boards from china and other hardware as opposed to the fin system.

The sysrem was very hard work, especially convincing shapers to give it a go, we all know they don't like change and FCS had a monopoly which the shapers didn't like but wouldn't step outside the norm to give it a go.

They nearly signed Hog and Margo to the system but unfortunately the people running the business before marty didn't understand surf and tried to use it it as an investment cash cow, never going to work.

i guess thats what u do when u got a monopoly....screw the middle man

great see the macquarie bank involved in hard core surfing enterprise

p.s mind u....selling china made boards was never a healthy direction....which surf shop on thew goldy has several shippin containers full em :?:

Is Mac Bank the Millionaires factory seriously tied up with FCS? :?

Those guys are hard wired to monetise anything within an inch of its life and get horny for monopolies - (which FCS must have in Aus).

Hmmm... well now the other website ( speeedsurf.com.au ) has gone 404 as well. I'm gonna call the rep today, but I suspect it's all over for speedies.... and he's looking for a new gig...

Chong... I hear FCS has a new dude playing hardball at the controls. I guess that's gonna be a whole lot easier now there's no real alternative in Aus anymore. :(

VHS beats Beta yet again. :?

Tiger... will PM you in a sec.
