Anyway interesting to see what it does to winter/spring sealife. Been quite a few stripeys (striped tuna aka skipjacks) inshore off Sydney past few weeks. Been a while I think since decent winter/spring inshore stripeys off sydney (hello commercial fishing rapists).
This pulse of cold water has made it a bumper start to the crayfish season. Some known haunts on the northern beaches are crawling at the moment. I'd say first flat day after this pending S swell will see some full catch bags around.

Haven't heard of skipjacks around though -- odd for them to be hanging around inshore this time of year.

On a different note, I just watched Stephanie Rice win the 200 medley, and I've got a bit of a mongrel. Faaaark me she is hot !!

I ripped the sleeve of my steamer around 2 months ago. So i started wearing the springy. Was going very well, pretty proud of myself. Until last thursday (?), f&*k me the water ( i only surf the dawn patrol ) was fu&*en icy. I was pretty crook ( half dead is the right description ), but i had to get my new board out. Since then im struggling. Was going to sneak out this morning, but when i got up the wind was blowin, so i rolled over. Not much longer though. Time to get my steamer fixed i think.

Jesus - you must have antifreeze in your veins.

Just bought a new wettie and surfing while being vaguely warm makes it so much more fun.

I feel your pain, mate :!:

Must be freezing up there right now..................
ringer's ... I have surfed down there in winter and can certainly appreciate you're situation and determination ... however this week in sydney has been our coldest water and air combo , and this morning was a head cracker ... I realise that in comparison we sydney siders would probably run for our blankey's on sticking our big toes in your water but I guess it comes back to what you have come accustom to ... this morning I was discussing with another bloke just after paddling out that the water felt warm because the air was so cold , and the water is supposed to be 16 ...

I reckon just the general winter is colder. Not counting the surf, it is also bloody freezing at night coming out after work. More so than last year.
I actually purchased some slippers to put the bins out since it is too cold for bare feet. Must be getting old

Sad but ugg boots and me don't seem to work, feet get too hot and I couldn't be bothered putting shoes on all the time. Don't worry I feel old and daggy when I look down at the them but they were cheap.

Sure has been cold for us southerner's. I like this interactive SST tool the best http://www.marine.csiro.au/remotesensing/web_point/ Note how the water cools in enclosed areas (like westernport, the gulf here ect) Yorkes look like a summer get away ATM

Around 13.0c on both the mid and at victor. Bloody feels it too, bought a hoody for the 1st time this season. Was thinking about those rubber gloves that someone mentioned on here after a 2 hr session where my hands went numb hence turning my thumbs into uncorordiated useless thumb turds :?
