The wafting smells from the abbatoir, sounds like a nice place to holiday.

that would be pretty scary i reckon! still, i believe that so far, there has been no fatal shark attacks in Vicco.
a couple of years ago, another surf got his leg rope chewed on at ocean grove. maybe victorian sharks prefer the taste of leggies.....

Actually I think the last person that was killed was back in Victoria was back in the 1950's
Plenty of bites but nothing fatal - think the last bite was at WinkiPop two years ago?
Before then a kid got bitten at my local back in 2004 but nothing serious.

"Divers and surfers should get a Shark Shield, which they strap to their leg and it sends out electric signals which give a shark a zap if it comes closer than seven metres."
I thought these were disproven in a recent court case??

They attract the shark over a long distance, and then repel them over a short distance...so you should be fine with your bulky anklet, but the bloke next to you better have insurance

This has been my issue with them. I didn't know that it had been in court though
I always thought that the signal that the shield emitts, attracts the sharks to the area due to them picking up a foreign electric pulse
And then the surfer with the shield is alright because they have the repelling device but the surfers around are put in danger
I think there have been a few issues with them over on the West coast due to this attraction..

One of the reasons why Byron Bay had a notoriously sharky reputation until FJ Walkers closed in the '70's.
Typical, a mate borrows your board or leg rope, damages it, then doesn't want to return it.

if those things initially attract sharks and then repel them, still dont want one. firstly it brings other surfers into more danger, and second if it only repels them from 5 to 8 metres away, thats already close enough!
