I surfed it Saturday morning and had one of the most frustrating and bewildering sessions of my life. I drove down with two mates and walked over the headland in the dark with head torches as we wanted to nab a few sets before the crowds arrived. We were on the beach at 5:30 and had to wait for a while to paddle out. While we were suiting up a group of lids arrrived. Then another group. Then a REAL BIG group (seriously, why travel in a group of 10?). I rushed to jump off cos I wanted to be first out. Managed to do that but, dead set, within 5 minutes 15 people had joined me in the grey half-light. 10 minutes later there was 30 people. At 6:30 am!
One of my mates said g'day to a similarly aged lid rider only to have the fella respond that he'd "never seen so many stand ups" out there. I counted 5. There were 30 lids and the numbers were growing by the minute.
I went in after two ordinary waves. Just couldn't deal with it and didn't wanna be part of it. There were 5 fellas filming on the beach and more setting up tripods. To a tee everyone had on tight black jeans, slip on shoes and lanky hair. I was getting a look into what would happen if lids ruled the world. God help us...
Walking back I passed more kids with tight jeans and tripods. Between the water and the beach there would have been around 50 people. It was a sick joke. And this was on the first day of the SIC so all the pros and hangers on were back at Cronulla.
Drove another 30 mins and surfed 4-6 foot barreling rights on a reasonably well known beach. Not a zephyr of wind and NO-ONE out for 3 hours. Ha ha..
So while I ponder the demise of a once-great surf spot I can take solace that as long as all those clowns stick to Hollywood on the South Coast there's less crowds elsewhere.

What? Is this 'your' thread?
OK then.
Yeah, yeah, photos 3, 7, 11 and any other prime number. What lens where you using? Good light.
No more tangents please and certainly no more observations from the same reef on the same weekend. Conversation could get interesting and that would detract from all the kudos that Coops deserves.

Your soft 2ndReef. Where’s your balls ?
Quite honestly I don’t know why anyone would bother even surfing that place anymore …let alone on a weekend and during the school holidays.
It’s totally gone to the dogs.
To be quite honest I would love to mount a Gatling gun on the beach and just mow down all the muther f-ckers in the water . The rest I would ambush on the pathway.
Not because they’ve ruined a great wave but because they’re such f-cking losers to think that’s its worth driving all that way to surf in “circus central.”
Save up kiddies and go surf uncrowded waves overseas that are 100 times longer, hollower and more f-cking perfect.
F-CKERS !!!!!!
