p.s I wear a steamer when ever possible and never ever wear boardies cause I get a rash on me nuts, and if you put vas on your nuts in boardies it ends up all over the board, where as with a wetty it's fine
p.p.s I love vas'ing up me nuts
p.p.p.s where's me blanky, I wanna have me nanna nap
If it's well engineered it's beautiful .

^^^^^I'm guessing tont's doesn't give a fig, which I concur.
I do have a chuckle at Wallies who come out in boardies only for the dawn sesh or after a fresh and watch 'em shiver their very manly exposed titties off. Still this is not half as funny as watching said Wallies get hit by sea lice and stingers
Idle entertainment between sets.
BTW ever considred how comfy wetties are nowadays. No need for rubbaphobia

Picked up my E3BOMB chest zip today (mates rates). Gotta be a contortionist to get into the f.ucker, but once on it feels fantastic, similar in fit to the O'Neil Psycho.
Probably would've slept in it tonight had it not been made in Thailand
The markup cost on rubber is ridiculous and i feel sorry for those who have to pay it.
I usually don't get into my steamer till after April

I don't understand why you would wear a steamer in relatively warm water purely for sun protection, although I'm sure some do. What about overheating? esp with the warm sun on the black rubber heating you up while you sweat underneath. A long-sleeve rashie, cream and a little common sense should do it!
With the glued and taped seams and snug fit of a steamer these days, I often feel like I'm gonna get heat stress when I wear one in winter in Sydney - couldn't imagine wearing one in summer or early autumn..
I tend to think people like to feel 'special', ie 'I'm going surfing and that means I need my wettie' - regardless of the water temp.

Last summer, that is January 2007, there were about 30 days of constant nor-easters and the water temp down at the beach was colder than mid winter temperatures, for the entire month. This is a common occurrence and has been explained by a few scientist types.
Now the fashion victims and cool as muppets would have gone out in there boardies ''cause it's summer and I only wear boardies in summer'', but the rest of us donned our steamers.
Is that the same ocean system that those blokes that paddled to NZ got caught up in? They apparently paddled in circles for days stuck in a huge eddie.salty wrote:Water was fecking freezing y'day down the Bra.

Must have been a bit of upwelling or something Salty. Tuesday AM seemed to be patchy cold spots here and there. This morning the water temp seemed noticably cooler in general. I'll admit I was shivering in boardies and vest. Did'nt help that the waves sucked too. Personally if the conditions are right for boardies I'll take the freedom of movement over wearing rubber anyday. A lot of this would have to do with growing up in a coldish enviroment ie head to toe rubber in winter.

whats wrong with springys?
i love them.
steamers in the middle of summer is stupid, its too hot, but wettie companies make 1mm wetties, you could get one of them
i love springys, boardies are generally too long, but i got some of those "retro" boardies, and they are sick to surf in,
you old fellas had it good.
stop whinging

Never had a problem with spring suits. They don't cause any restriction of movement. Can get a bit warm if you stay out in the sun too long but as I generally go out at first light that's not a problem. When I was younger boardies were more stiff (almost like canvas) so they didn't ride up your inner thighs, exposing your hair to wax balls - very painful to remove.
And, when I was a boy......all we had to wear in winter were footy jerseys.
So the invention of wetties with the zipper at the back was a wonderful innovation.
