hey does anyone know of any good surfing beaches around nelson beach/port stephen?

Going on a last minute road trip and I can't bring my board as no roof rack :( so also wondering is there anywhere you can hire a board for the weekend??

Buy a cheap set of 'soft racks'

I don't travel often with my board but bought some a few weeks back....

I wouldn't want to tour the world with the soft racks but for a short trip somewher (ie, under a few hours) they are OK.

Got mine for about $50. Bargain!

There are a number of beaches in the area for all levels of surfing. Nothing world class, but still good fun.
There are options in almost any wind direction, and easy access to most beaches, so just follow your surfer's intuition and you shall be rewarded.

If you don't mind walking, the trek to the top of one of the volcanic plugs at the Heads is well worth the effort.

And get some soft racks already...

trade it in for a big 4wd then you can fit the boards inside, and as an added bonus everyone on here will hate you ....

cool thanks biggun - just checked with the girl I'm going with she said the hire co won't let me put a set of racks on the roof! But if its a soft set, what they don't know won't hurt

1)Get a pair of soft racks , and good luck working out the connections !!! 2)Or , far easier , just roll a towel each end under your board and strap down through the car .
3)Hire a bigger car , rather than hiring a board .

2) sounds the go, straps are all you need, although....
def. put towels under boards if do this.

1) is all I had on an old convertible for years, went SA, Qld. with them no worries. Twist the straps, or you get 'wind hum', a harmonic vibration that seems all very musical for a bit, til it gets unbearable.
Soft racks are just straps with a pad underneath, the metal tie down bits aren't necessary and they can jam.
