Instinctively wanto say, "Put a bag over his head", however that has a variety of connotations a) you wouldn't wanto $#@* itNick Carroll wrote:What are you gonna do? Chuck a riot? A one man, furious, flag-draped, booger riot?heefcoate wrote:cause i dont want you near my hood!
Australia quakes in anticipation of your hood-based fury.
b) klux symbolism
either seems appropriate.

It's hard for me to resist the urge to run them off the road.
Was probably David Flint's vice-regal limousine. (or George Fishman's)

Well clif I hope your satisfied now. Your politically correct paranoia was totally unnecessary as people wrapped in Australian flags again show their tolerance and sobriety in a dignified and caring manner that will forever be the symbol of Australian Beach Culture around the world. Makes you proud to be Australian and particularly a surfer.
Those Burleigh Locals are a tight knit bunch. Good luck taking on the Queensland Coppers though.

Tropfest had a great take on this issue when Between the Flags was screened. Catch it at http://revver.com/video/283748/between-the-flags/

I find the 'Aussie super hero' look (no shirt, flag cape, possibly a southern cross tattoo) both amusing and disturbing. Immediate thought is idiot bogan. But...
Possible we are being too hard on these youngsters? Think of all the shit thats gone down in the past 7 years. I didn't have to deal with a fear of planes flying into tall buildings when I was 18.
When people are scared, they want to belong, even more than a young guy usually does. And more likely to display these accepted (although now ambiguous, true) symbols in safe surrounds. And vote for conservatives who play on these fears.
My dad put up a flag pole a couple of years ago and flies our flag every day. I asked him why he did it. 'Proud Australian' he says. I think it runs deeper than that.
I am not an advocate of 'love it or leave it' or 'middle eastern appearance = terrorist'.
Its all just a sign of the times I think. And unlikely to change in a hurry.
