Yeah, have car, shall travel.
I'm serious, u gotta go check MQFlds bowl out.
It's totally worth the drive. Five dock bowls are great, plentiful etc, but as a single totally perfect bowl MQ kicks arse over five dock.
Also , if ur ever down gerringong way, head 10mins south and check out the bowl at shoalhaven. Four to five foot clover shaped, with a roll-in also, so u can also hit it on a longboard. The dudes that skate it are mostly surfers too, and u see some mad flowing styles, just crazy high speed carving.

OK now you've got me curious. I'll have to check out Macquarie Fields. Could shape up as an epic adventure into Sydney's 'Heart of Darkness'. I might need to take Shearer along for the ride.

I'd be honoured to accompany you Karlos.
I am happy to be designated driver if you want to drink.

It's ok to drink and drive in Macquarie Fields, isn't it?

It's expected. I'll buy a 4 litre Leasingham cask to share Steve. It'll be like 'Fear & Loathing' only with a goon.

And a clown
Re: skateboarding ...
And a hell of a story...
Re: skateboarding ...
it's located in a pretty lush spot.
surrounded every imaginable fast food outlet there is. maccas, hungry jacks, KFC, red rooster, subway, krispy kremes, and others i can't recall at this point. and of course there's a BP servo across the road. and housing commission flats off to the left, and a creepy looking "rape creek". sketchy young grommets with pocket knives and cigarettes, carving their initials, spitting gollies and such.
kinda like nerang on the gold coast actually.
but the bowl is indeed the concrete version of the mentawais.

petulance, karlos etc..
just found out that dulwich hill skatepark re-opens this saturday. hopefully it's now glass smooth. not that it was that sketchy before. not sure what the refurb was all about? maybe building more stuff in addition to what's there?

I'll be keen to try out the snake run but will definitely go in fully padded.

Re: skateboarding ...
Well, I made an impulse eBay purchase the other day. Pretty much flies in the face of the excellent advice given by Karlos and Iggy, but limited supply and me being a cheapskate narrowed my options. In the end I went for a lightly used complete - powell minilogo deck (8x32 or thereabouts), thunder trucks, enuff wheels (98a??). Seemed OK in the advert, hopefully arrives tomorrow. I'm ashamed to admit that I've ordered some pads as well. The park's booked for tuesday. Yippee
Re: skateboarding ...
Petulance. Will swing past on the weekend for a quick audit on what the refurb was all about. Scope out the snake run etc. early Sunday the weekend after Easter I'm gonna hit it. Lemme know of ur keen to tag along. Got pads etc

Re: skateboarding ...
Thanks for the offer. I have my own pads. Will make do with an old bicycle helmet for now. Might check it out this weekend depending on the swell. The Sunday after Easter would be good, might bring a mate who has a Carver board along.

Re: skateboarding ...
This weekend there's a south swell. I'd be hitting that instead. Plus this weekend at dulwich hill is going to be hectic (re opening after several months, and some reopen launch event thing happening) . It will be hectic . I'm gonna do a quick 5 min look in if time permits though. But will hold out til weekend after Easter for shit to die down a bit. Will get some pics of the refurb up if I swing by this weekend
Re: skateboarding ...
GSTQ: don't be embarrassed by wearing pads. Concrete really fcuking hurts when you hit it hard. As soon as I did the first time back I sprung for protection. I do reckon you might have gone a bit narrow on the deck though. Unless you have little itty bitty feet... My deck is 8.5" but I wouldn't mind going to 9" if I can find one with the same wheelbase.
I reckon I'll be in for that weekend after Easter for sure.

Re: skateboarding ...
OK, it makes sense to wait for the initial opening hoopla to die down a bit. What's the protocol with using a snake run / skate park anyway? Wait in line for your turn?

Re: skateboarding ...
Go early morning & possibly wait for no-one. Unlike surfers, skaters generally do not get up early to skate, at least the youngs ones don't anyway. Old crew tend to, but there aren't that many & you'll probably find yourself with the park to yourself.
As far as protocol goes you'll find for the most part it is pretty fair with everyone waiting their turn. Nothing like a crowded day in the water.

Re: skateboarding ...
The snake run mostly empty. But yeah, one at a time I guess. But the skate park down the bottom is an open flow format. Bit of a free for all. So if ur gonna hook a big flowing line all over it u gotta make sure people are aware of that. Smash up derbies otherwise.petulance wrote:OK, it makes sense to wait for the initial opening hoopla to die down a bit. What's the protocol with using a snake run / skate park anyway?
