That's pretty true.

these are all from the wsl site by the way. there's heaps of shots there, they're just poorly curated. :)

I know, right.

I go through them and think ... i can't believe someone is getting paid for that mess.

i'll be sad if they make the contests one-day or two-day events. what do we want - no more boredom, frustration or exasperation in surfing? i think that's crazy.
I hadn't really thought of it like that Al.......maybe you're right.
The surfing is better than ever and sure there's lots of boredom waiting for waves and swell, but its the human dimension that the WSL has sanitised.

Can you imagine what the WSL would do to Shakespeare's plays? Sanitise the fcuk out of them, make them into cute little disneyland fairy tales.

I hate seeing our surfing heroes watching their every word trying to fit into the mom and apple pie image. FFS, there's no-one watching who cares, its never going to be that mass audience that they aspire to. Let it be hard core and cult, anti establishment, lets surf not work, whatever. It may be just escapism in the end, but hey, maybe that's just what all of us stuck in the working day grind* need.

nah ... cut the competitor's and don't fuck around doing it. it's like a 14-day test match, as my esteemed colleague, derek reilly suggested.

there are at least 12 surfers on tour that no one gives one bubbly piss in a mouth at a cronulla urinal for ...

we can still have boredom and frustration in waiting periods with the top 17 men. but let's all watch the surfers we wanna see. not some one and done, 27 year old rookie from some town more famous for making parmesan cheese, than surfing.

no more non-elimination heats after this season. thank you very much.

I have to say that the scenario at Cloudbreak....since I was there.....and which I will milk till your ears bleed...made me think that it must be one of the most insulated venues on the tour. It seems like an R&R social session. I understand they are in a bubble...but surely that's one of the best.

I'm home, Crabmeatie. Went back to work on Thursday. Going rough hammock withdrawals as we speak.
