I know a few older guys that can carry a longboard without to much complaining too.
…..but not very far.
e.g. Central Coast…..plenty at Blue Bay with a short stroll to the water from the car. Not that many out at the reef at Nth Shelly’s with a decent hike up the stairs after a longish walk.
There's a couple of decent climbs up from the beach at the northern end of the sunny coast.
Up from Castaways.
Up from Sunshine at the doggy beach end.
Not to mention the 240 steps up from Sunshine if you want to surf A Bay.

It's not really a problem with a Longboard. Bit of a pain with a log though. I reckon my regular ride is about 85 litres.
My other two I can carry all day

But maybe not up those 240 steps. 🤬

Board width is an issue for sure. My foamies only 8’ 70 litres and wide. Very awkward to deal with. Mal is a piece of piss to carry.
I mean when we stay at Crescent I’m usually lugging my board across the Golf Course and up the hill. Sure I can lug my Rabbidge back and forth but it’s sure easier with an epoxy board. Ergonomically it’s terrible for your back.

I’ve been a bit fluey (negative for Covid) so watched a bit. I actually enjoyed the night surfing. But fuck it’s pretty boring overall. I was actually thinking of you watching it and wondering what your write up would entail. Plenty of them seemed a bit disinterested. A lot of safe surfing.

Haven’t watched it yet but from past viewing they all seem to come unstuck going for airs on the last bit.

How about the competition you can win as a punter to surf 2 waves as a feature during the comp. No pressure.

I remember a competition in the late 80's or 90's where a punter won a comp (not a surfing comp some marketing campaign) and the prize was a place in the trials at bells. I recall some middle aged brickie won it- pretty sure I read about it in tracks. I always thought that was a pretty cool experience for that fella

They've got way better at surfing the pool and I think the bathymetry has been tweaked too. I tuned in to watch a few heats. The surfing is good to watch, but the format needs to be improved.

The tub at Homebush is meant to open sometime next year. Only a 15 mins drive, I’m looking forward to it. It’ll be just a form of cross-training (like skateboarding is) for what i can see. Like there’s no “down the line” or anything, maybe just good to fine tune really right in the pocket surfing, positioning, posture, timing etc

Is it the same design as the Melbourne one. I find the Yeppoon one way more enticing.

Yeh, if you live close by, worth one of those memberships where you get about one sesh a week plus an extra over a month.
Wouldn’t travel for it, but.

I thought the opposite actually.

96 waves ridden by the men on opening day.

Only 6 were excellent (above 8 )).

Which means 94% of rides were mediocre and safety surfed.

I thought they’ve improved too and the scale has accommodated that.

And the chicks don’t kook all the barrels like they used to either.

They've improved, but there were less excellent waves ridden?

OK.

I thought the scale was all over the place this year too- see the Final for eg.

Much, much less progression this year as well.

Girls were doing airs in previous years (Lakey Peterson)- no completed airs for the gals this year.

I've watched every wave of every Surf Ranch event (bar the Future Classic, which wasn't broadcast) and the judging this year was by far the most incomprehensible.

Which, I think, led to them completely shitting the bed over the Finals.
