Just to complicate things, enter the baby swallow. They seem to be a common option on bigger more gunny boards, don't know the why or how.

Good explanation. I always associated swallows with having the bite of a pintail with the advantage of the extra width. Fish pretty much work like this. It's always a drawback if you do a turn that ends with you more or less over the tail. Not a problem on a round tail, pin or even square tail. Good for down the line rail surfing though.

See above re straightening the outline curve. Effectively turns a given outline into something 3-4" longer.

Assuming the same board, eg, rail line length and tail width, what are the effects if any of various tail shapes?
Eg swallow, chopped square, bat tail, moon tail etc.

to this day, the only surfing i've seen in the same ballpark of JJF, is Mick on that little blue, channel bottomed, swallowtail at Jbay, and here around home.

He murders waves on that thing.

why does that particular swallow, suit Mick's surfing so much?

My amateurish observations.

I believe it has the same rocker as his normal boards.

The channels mean the tail rocker can stay decent despite the shorter length.
The swallows mean the rail length is a bit straighter, especially through the tail section, but it can still fit into those smaller pockets.

Mick's board is very rarely flat, so he gets the maximum drive out of the channels and fins (which I would guess are a bit longer in base than normal)

Did a few really nice turns (for my level) and found i was able to pivot off the bottom a little easier on the steeper ones. It was like a knife through butter out on the open face.
Main difference I felt from my usual round tail boards was the sharper direction changes. I haven't felt that before. Probably my imagination, but it definitely felt different to my Sweet spot 2.0 and the PCC 6'0 i just traded for a newy.
I had a 6'2 M10 Hogfish Tuflite years ago when i was coming down from a mini mal with a similar fin futures fin set up. I've been regretting selling it for years as I had a few magic sessions on it but got carried away experimenting. Havent' seen one for sale since, but this board is the closest thing I've been able to find. A keeper.
Might try it as a quad, but at the moment I can't really see much point. I haven't ridden a super twin setup since so I'm thinking my style of surfing suits that fin set up.
Board Culture on the Goldie have some on sale, surf freight can ship all along the East Coast for $50

Drive off the channels. Shorter ABs are mostly swallows too. The tail suits the channel action.

Beautifully made, truly well constructed & feels great under the arm. I love the rails that Simon Jones does. Mine is a 4 channel diamond tail with a wing, it's for good waves not necessarily big but certainly likes something with a bit of energy. I took it to Lombok last year & use it on the points or beachies up here. Haven't ridden it for a while tho been on a single fin & bonzer trip.

The channels give it grip/drive & removes the slide that u don't need at critical moments or sections.

Rainbow fins?
After having so much success on the El fuego recently, my next tangent will be an similar board for sure.

i start to convulse whenever i see cranked was the last person to post in the quiver thread. but this time 'round, a few poly zots saved his ass from merciless and punishing anti-tufflite resent.

5'9" Moon, based on a combo of the Purchase Quartet and a hypto. need to get this copied, pronto. it's got a few superficial creases.
5'9" ACSOD Fox - twin fish.
5'11" Merrick Custom Semi Pro 12 rounded pin.
6'2" MR Super Twin - this has been put on ice. it's pretty beat up.
6'6" Gil Glover single pintail
9'3" performance log by chris garrett.

I still feel like I need an everyday board. Somewhere between the twin fish & merrick. there's a bit too much space between them and they do.
