It still amazes me that with that surname his nickname is white lightning.

Braithy you need to get back to Tassie as far away from this plastic tits version of surfing as possible. Why should Julian Wilson have to conform to a criteria to appease judges who have never performed at the same level as he has same goes for Kelly Slater or whoever else.

The WSL would be more credible if they had ex CT level surfers judging heats who could recognise the degree of difficulty in maneuvers such as KS's carving 360 without having to look at their text book.

He's undoubtedly talented and seems to be a decent bloke, but I only like watching him at Margs for some reason

agree mate. its always puzzled me how judges can judge on surfing they are in no way capable of performing themselves. the wsl could put any person in commentary, (sal masekela was my favourite and he never surfed a heat in his life) and then they could gather up all the old pros who're talking shit on the airwaves and move them into judging.

upstairs for thinking.

I think Braithy is going to stick around here RMB and do gods work.

J dub should b top 5 for life with a half dozen world titles by the time he has to finally admit defeat and shave the last locks of thinning hair. He's fucking amazing.
Very brittle though.

I'd just like to say hello and welcome gcuts.

The thing is no matter how damn good someone is and how much they should win the WSL is the commercialisation of surfing. Not that it's bad or evil it's just that the powers that be have a criteria if you don't meet it you won't win simple. Kelly Slater was smart enough and brilliant enough to meet that criteria better than all his competitors most of the time hence 11 titles. It's not rigged it's just the most marketable system.

It doesn't work for the non conformists nor does the reporting of it due to advertising pressures. Core surfers observe pro surfing with interests without much emotional investment groupie surfers are those the WSL is marketed too the career trapped weekend warriors.

Looking at that photo theres a reason why the ASP/WSL can only pull off contests in certain areas.
