Good shootin' Mical...

Boys are fun...ya gotta have a boy. That said girls present an intellectual challenge well beyond boys. Just don't ever admit it.

good onya. now go to sleep, you're gonna need it.
the first 3 weeks are not fun. amazing, but like being badly jetlagged for a month. after that it eases up and gets more interesting every day.
iggy has some good book suggestions. if you're in nsw you'll probably go to an early childhood centre too. if you get an old bird, take what they say with a grain of salt....times have changed a bit.

Thanks so much for the well wishes everyone, what a whirlwind the past few days have been.

Dayle and little man Rylan (Ry) are doing amazingly well, better than I could ever have expected or hoped.

It was unbelievably fast, she woke at 6:30am with a small bit of back pain and by 7:00am was getting hit with contractions 3 minutes apart. We stuck it out at home for as long as she was comfortable, headed in to hospital at 10:00am and she was 2 minutes apart and 7cms  ... no pain relief allowed which was not in her plan.

She did what I asked the whole time, stayed focused and pushed through brilliantly.

My new best mate arrived at 12:51pm ... 6 and a bit hours after he decided to start making his way into the world.

you'll have a lot of fun figuring it all out and getting used to the whole deal..
expect to be sleep deprived for a while..
if they've got enough food and sleep then they're fine, there's not a lot else to it..
it's just getting used to the patterns, and reading it all, but will be something you'll be less involved with (well the feeding part anyway)..
also, there's a stack of good information and books available, and you'll need it..
these 2 books are a good run down on the first 12 months..

it will teach you a lot about their growth and development, what to be aware of, and the role you can play along the way..
overall, the good outweighs the bad by far, and it gets better by the week..
they're continually changing, becoming more and more their own person, becoming more switched on and interactive..

Thanks for that Iggs, really appreciate it.

I'm off to see my son!

PS You better be covering Bells pretty bloody well Shearer, I've missed the whole thing so far and will need a good recap.

Hey, well done Mical, as soon as you get the chance, sit down the the young fella and watch 'Winter Sessions' while sucking down a celebratory beer. The sooner he gets the surf germ the better methinks.
