Nasty. Have there been any tow-in fatalities yet? Only a matter of time.

The last picture of that sequence, the wave looks so evil and demented.

I think this is the one Salty was talking about. If so its the same break.

Image

Weird to see the right get so demented after reading all about how it breaks perfectly and is the perfect wave etc.

Although the last couple of photos here it looks to have a similar bit of kick in it...

You got to take your hat off to these guys, massive hairy plums to do that, but I have to say it, why would you want to surf a wave like that? Its not like chopes or pipe, big and perfect, its big and shithouse. I fear there are guys who are risking their lives just to get cover shots or even for the money. Sure its more than that because I wouldnt (nor would you probably) do it for just money or ego, but if I was going to risk it all , I would want warm water and a chance of a massive makeable barrel, not that.

You can tell by kobys cover its for the $$$ and publicity, but thing is people trying to make a living out of the sport, if it were possible im sure the people who originally found this wave wouldnt have spilled the beans. But being boogers who found it there is even less money in the sport and that is what they had to do to make a living.

As for the wave not being perfect, read the article on coastalwatch, that was a freak wave at a break that pounds out some flawless rights and lefts.

boogers take off just as deep as the surfers and make a lot more waves than the surfers, that guy may be a charger but if a booger was on that wave he wiuld have made it as he could handle that little ledge
he tripped over
unfortuntel
and the boogers dont go claiming it as hard as the surfers do
modesty is the best policy

At the risk of being howled down, and I will preface this remark by saying how measuring the height of a wave is really not a very good measure of its ferocity,

however,

Would any of you have called that a 40' wave.

I would have said 40' wide, but not 40' high!

Yeah it's a full on crazy balls out attack, but that ain't 40'.

Before the wave even looks like breaking its height (from crest to sea level) measures slightly higher than 40 foot.

So you are wrong once again Oldcnut
