The whole thing is a joke beyond comprehension.

I took advantage of the scheme. No problems at all. Im very happy with the people i dealt with and the job they did.

If you are stupid enough to accept an offer for anything from people that knock on your door unsolicited. You're a numbskull and you deserve to be ripped off. Idiots have been getting ripped off by shonks for ever and they always will. What that has to do with the government is beyond me. What happened to personal responsibility?

People have been getting killed on building sites because of unsafe work practices and dodgy builders for years. I don't recall the shock jocks or tabloids getting so fired up about those cases.

I'm a renter. What bugs me most about this is that the federal government was using my taxes to provide some homeowners with free roof insulation. Putting batts in a roof is both low cost and short-term cost-effective. Of all the things our taxes could be used for, why did Rudd & Co pick one that shouldn't need subisdising, and not even require the homeowners to foot part of the bill?

Sums it up really. I love the way the right wing love 'personal responsibility', except where it doesn't suit them, which is pretty much everywhere.

Damage would be aware of another article published last week about the concept of 'ministerial responsibility', particularly in relation to 'the Westminster system'.

The concept, writ simply, is that the minister is ultimately responsible for the frock-ups of his/her department.

An analysis was recently done of every ministerial resignation in Australia since Federation, and found not one example of a minister resigning because his/her department frucked up. Not one.

Australian Wheat Board, anyone?

It also seems notable that the foil insulation apparently was predominantly used in North Queensland. Now there's a surprise.

Of course, in the hottest part of the country, you would really want the least effective insulation in your rooftop.

And when the government is footing the bill, it really is a great idea to go with the cheapest nastiest form of insulation.

But it does have the added advantage of ensuring that they can't read your thoughts from the satellites above when inside the house.

Or can they?

i hope this is a juvenile attempt at sarcastic humour.
if not - go & get yourself well & truly f.u(ked.

typical subordinate comments from a lefty sympathising, responsibility-avoiding numbskull.
of course the Crudd govt. is responsible, the installers who were doing the wrong thing - it's not one or the other - it's BOTH!

I trust you held this point of view through the entire years of the ministerial responsibility avoiding Howard government. :?

13 years of budget surplus can't all be bad, oldman.

blown in a couple of years of irresponsible funds allocations.
watch out for the next 2 rudd govt. projects to fail:

"digital ready" endorsed installers program - ex-insulation installers will grab an aluminium extension ladder & jump ON your roof, not IN your roof.
"NBN tasmania" - australia won't see anywhere near 43 billion smackeroos. sacked factory workers in NW tassie to line up to blind themselves with invisible light sources.

polls are swinging around again - maybe some thick labour voters are waking up to his incompetence.

BTW-howard never f.u(ked up this bad...

All the nuance of a partisan matt. You complain about the lefties and give us analysis that only Miranda Devine would accept.

Matt, he took us into a war, based on absolutely false 'intelligence' that you and I knew was cooked up.

He took us into a war, while his foreign and trade ministers paid kickbacks to the guy that we were supposed to be fighting because he was such a terrorist.

He sold off Telstra without splitting the retail from the wholesale, which anyone who knew the situation was a no-brainer, and created the problem that the current government is trying to fix.

Oh but Garrett paid for batts to be put into ceilings! He is Hitler, Satan and the devil all rolled into one.

'13 years of budget surplus' - wrong again, but lets not worry about facts.

Enough already.

a labour govt. would have taken australia to war as well. everyone knows that. rudd has LESS international influence & rapport than the howard govt. so that's a lame one.

as far as the telstra sell off goes, and the "no brainer decision": when that decision was made if the retail & wholesale was split, then the wholesale & ALL the overheads - thousands of jobs & the largest carrier - would've sunk quicker than the titanic. the retail was propping it up. it is a very ignorant leftist view about the selloff. the wholesale will only make money when:
a) the submarine fibre cable to hawaii is completed, capitalising on direct wholesale sales from the US mainland, rather than routing & renting as we do now.
and
b) the fibre cable backhaul network around australia is near completion & then telstra will be the major, if not only, wholesaler in telecommunications.

miranda who?

Oh matt, absolute crap.

How can a monopoly provider of telephone cables running throughout Australia go under, exactly.

And the retail has not been propping up anything, the retail is getting it's brains kicked out by its competitors. Telstra retail is being propped up by the fact that they get the wholesale price of access cheaper than their competitors.

Where else does your ignorance extend to matt.

A leftist view of the sell-off. You make Miranda look intelligent.

Heh heh.

The right and probably even centre spectrum media to date just hadn't landed a good punch on Rudd's chin in his first 2 years in office and I think the feeding frenzy that it all became was that a good proportion of people just wanted to see Tintin taken down a peg or too.

And note, he (finally) wrapped Garrett on the knuckles, said he took responsibility, Devine, Piers, Shanahan et al get to smirk satisfyingly and the we all move on to the next thing.

And a very pleasant morning to you too Fong!
