New bay - fresh sled

Have finally got my new shaping bay up and running about 8 months after moving into my new house!

Haven't shaped a board in that time, so thought i'd knock something weird and wonderful out for myself to knock the dust off my skills.

ended up with a 5'6/ 5'5 x 18.5 x 2.38 asym, concaved deck planing hull inspired by burch, stretch and barry snyder. Fun to be back in the bay!

it's still not glassed, but i fair butchered an attempt at a new to me technique of doing carbon rails - lucky the mess will be hidden by some cork! haha

might try and get it in the bag over the weekend actually.

Any update on this one? Really keen to hear how it goes.
Is it specifically for the right hand point near you?

Cheers,
Scot

have been waiting on some goodies to glass it, which arrived today, but got a deck to build this weekend so maybe get it in the bag during the week.

scot - not specifically for the point break you mention, but it was in the back of my mind for sure!

I now have access to a lazer cutter / etcher - so i'm figuring it out at the moment - then going to go to town on etching the cork before i bag it on this one. i.e. - burnt graphics and traction pad cut out of cork

sneak peak - laser etched graphics and tail pad.

neither came out perfect, but will work for my board. got some tweaking to do with my techniques on the machine to get it working sweet!

finished. surfs good. might wanna try some bigger quads I think.

tried a new layup - cerex, hexdek, 4oz, cork deck - couple of footwells forming after 2 surfs but nothing major.

haha lucky ya found it!

yeah i build up a kick at the back with 4 extra strips of cork. the pad grips really well - but its more harse feeling than a bought one. I have a permanent scab/ulcer on my big toe i think where it rubs on my pad getting up, and it got torn up big time.

the big fin is a surf eclipse MR twin, the smaller quads are shapers AP02 - the m/l size of asher paceys sig fin. Yeah they are pretty upright and while they felt good in a few turns, I think something more raked and bigger will feel better for me.

Whats the verdict on the asym feel pirate?

Looks bizarre to me, but functionally it makes perfect sense.

cpt - had about 4 surfs on it now and it's feeling really good on my forehand, backhand its been a bit hit and miss, had some magic turns, and a few bogged turns as well, but to be fair the lefts i've surfed it in have been kinda tricky waves to surf backside, so i'll keep persevering. frontside though, it is one of the best feeling boards i've ridden!
